What will be your role?
We are presently recruiting for a Building Automation Project Engineer who will work in collaboration with the Construction and Engineering teams assigned to the Multi-site Enterprise Solutions Team 
You will be responsible for providing high level field support and coordination efforts, including commissioning, control logic programming, integration with third party systems, IT infrastructure and system security. You will update and/or develop engineering drawings, sequence of operations, control logic programming for strategic customers within the Distech Controls Energy Services (DCES) team.  

Reporting to the Project Team Manager, the Project Engineer will be responsible for delivering a high level of consistency in engineering and project delivery of our Strategic Account Customer projects.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

What will you do?

In collaboration with the Engineering Team and the Project Managers, you will work closely with the DCES team to leverage the success of the organization. 

Project Engineering:

  • Oversee and Coach System Integrator Partners and electrical and mechanical subcontractors work to ensure their performance on-site meets or exceeds project requirements
  • Provide oversight, coaching, and hands on assistance to Startup Technicians in helping test as well as troubleshoot installation issues during the startup and commissioning of building controls and systems.
  • Ensure projects meet or exceed client requirements and expectations.
  • Ensure projects are delivered to meet or improve schedules and deadlines. 
  • Performs pre-construction audits of sites to support smooth transitions for new BAS installs and retrofits. 
  • Develop and foster excellent relationships between business and project stakeholders: System Integrator Partners, Consulting Engineers, Building Owners and Property Managers and Mechanical Contractors.
  • Support and help maintain overall financial integrity of projects through efficient engineering best practices.
  • Provide input to the Project Team as requested or required to assist in the accurate, design, installation, start up, commissioning, and training for building systems
  • Interpret control drawings, plans, and specifications to ensure accurate installation, assembly, testing, and programming of controls systems. 
  • Participate in and ensure commissioning activities are delivered to meet or improve schedules and deadlines.
  • Perform MEP Drawings and Specifications reviews and 'take-off's'.
  • Support DCES Application Engineers as needed to develop programming logic derived from sequence of operations required to meet engineering specifications and efficient building standards.
  • Produce BMS Submittal Packages, including:
  • Smaller Projects; panel drawings, network architecture (riser) drawings, control schematics and floorplans
  • Equipment and IP schedules
  • Bill of Materials
  • Check out and commissioning documentation
  • Assist in turnover of projects from Operations Team to Service Team as needed. 
  • Other duties as assigned.


Technical Specialist:

  • Supports deployment of DCES projects while meeting specific customer requirements.
  • Develops and Maintains Project Documentation.
  • Develops and Maintains Owner Specific User Interfaces.
  • Assist in Validating Project Programming and Project Deployment Standards, participate in peer reviews relating to programming standards and uniformity. 
  • Identify process improvements and areas to make workflow more efficient. 
Skills and Minimum Experience Required

Which candidate profile are we looking for?

  • Minimum of high school diploma.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a BMS Field Support Role, Commissioning Technician or Project Engineer role.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, both high low voltage electrical, lighting controls and HVAC systems.
  • Self-starting, self-motivated individual, able to think outside the box, ability to prioritize and work effectively without daily guidance/supervision.
  • Flexible Team player.  Ability to rapidly change focus based on business needs.
  • Comfortable working daily in a large-scale construction atmosphere.
  • Experience in Building control system commissioning.
  • Experience in Building control system design and engineering, excellent troubleshooting skills and an ability to read complex Mechanical/Electrical Plans, manuals, and some programming logic.
  • Experience in using Visio is essential.
  • Proficient in English, exceptional written, oral communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and handle various priorities.

Accountabilities and Performance Measures:

  • This role will be managed by the Project Team Manager. 
  • Maintains high customer satisfaction ratings that meet company standards.
  • Training will be made available as classes are made available and identified by the individual based on the need. 
Preferred Skills and Experience

Which additional skills in a candidate profile are a plus?

  • A two-year technical degree in HVAC or Electronics related studies preferred. An undergraduate degree in Electrical or Mechanical related studies is excellent.
  • Experience with Distech Controls hardware and software
  • Experience in using AutoCAD 
Travel Requirements

This is a remote position and requires up to 45% travel. 

  • Must hold a valid driver's license and vehicle. 
  • A valid US Passport would be required for any/all international travel.
  • On-site time will vary based on issues that arise over the course of the Commissioning and Start-up process. 
  • Candidate will complete any off-line programming, submittal, bill of material generation, graphics while at their home office.
  • Travel to sites will be planned in coordination with the client and Project Team Manager, using Milestone Delivery dates, for completion of assigned site-based work.
  • For travel outside of your normal home office area a car rental will be afforded for travel.  
  • Travel out of state will be arranged by the employee using the Concur travel portal paid by the employer upon a completed expense report, and approval from the Project Team Manager.
