ELKO COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICTHUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPTSalary: Level 21 Step 1 POSITION SUMMARY:Under general direction, the Building and Grounds Technician plans, schedules, supervises, and inspectsthe work of landscape and Grounds crews assigned to specific school sites. In addition to landscape andgrounds responsibilities, this position oversees building maintenance and collaborates closely withbuilding supervisors, electricians, plumbers, and HVAC technicians. The role requires carpentry skills,mechanical expertise, and the ability to work on doors and create keys for each school, making thetechnician a versatile "of all trades" within the school facilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:(In addition to the duties mentioned in the original job description) Oversee building maintenance activities at specific school sites.Assist building supervisors in their tasks and coordinate closely with electricians, plumbers, and HVACtechnicians.Utilize carpentry skills to repair and maintain doors within school facilities.Learn how to create and manage keys for each school as needed. (schooling will be provided)Collaborate with various trades/crafts for comprehensive facility management.Supervise and inspect work in progress related to building maintenance and Grounds activities.Conduct cost estimates for building-related projects and materials.Communicate effectively with employees, vendors, contractors, and other stakeholders. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:The role involves planning, supervising, scheduling, and inspecting the work activities of landscape andgrounds personnel, as well as overseeing building maintenance tasks within school facilities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:(In addition to the skills mentioned in the original job description) Proficiency in carpentry, mechanical repairs, and key-making procedures.Ability to collaborate effectively with various professionals, including electricians, plumbers, andHVAC technicians.Versatility in handling diverse tasks related to Building and Grounds maintenance.Strong communication skills to coordinate activities with different stakeholders.Adaptability to work in a dynamic environment and meet predetermined deadlines.Knowledgeable in sprinkler systems. (valves, programable timers, solenoids) EXAMPLES OF ASSIGNED WORK AREAS:Elko County School District facilities landscape and Grounds areas (i.e., schools, ball fields, parking lots, gardens, etc.) WORK ENVIRONMENT:Strength: Medium/Heavy - Exert force 50-100lbs. Frequently, 25-50 lbs.

occasionally, or 10-20 lbs. constantly. Involves significant stand/walk/push/pull/carry.

Physical Demands: Frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, repetitive fine motor activities, feeling, hearing, climbing and balancing. Vision: Frequent near and far acuity, depth perception, focal length change and color vision. Environmental Conditions: Varies from a climate-controlled office setting to work outdoors with temperatures ranging from mild/moderate to extreme cold/heat.

Exposure to noise levels ranging from moderate to loud and occasional to frequent time periods and fumes and chemicals associated with herbicide and pesticide spraying, fertilizers, motor oils, and gasoline. Hazards: Furniture, playground/office equipment, communicable diseases, chemicals (as related to specific assignment), and power/hand operated equipment and machinery (as related to specific assignment). EXAMPLES OF EQUIPMENT/SUPPLIES USED TO PERFORM TASKS:District-issued/personal vehicles, tractors, lawn mowers, dump trucks, two-way radios, sod cutters, aerators, renovators, hand rakes, shovels, grease guns, saws, etc.
