Job description

This position is located in the Vice Commandant, Seventeenth Coast Guard District Prevention Division, Waterways Management Branch (DPW) in Juneau, Alaska.

Qualifications:

GS-12 Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the federal service. Examples of specialized experience include: 

Performing substantive reviews and analyses of several documents submitted with the application; Contacting required investigations; Conducting field investigations on virtually all actions; Validating statistical data and other related supporting material; Analyzing responses to public notices and/or public hearing testimony; Performing other associated functions such as preparing draft environmental impact statements or statement of negative declaration; Examining applications to build or modify a bridge or causeway over navigable water to ensure citation of the proper legislative authority; Analyzing requests from complainants to modify current drawbridge regulations;
Investigating and preparing a report on findings from complaints that a particular bridge is obstructive to marine traffic; Computing a preliminary benefit-cost ratio for anticipated annual savings to navigation by removal of an obstructive bridge and subsequent reduction of vessel delays and vessel damages; Investigating reported violations of laws and regulations related to bridges; Interpreting environmental control laws (e.g., National Environmental Policy Act); Conducting environmental site assessments for proposed bridge projects.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.  If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
