Alterations Specialist
What this position is about:
Under direction from the Shop Manager, the Alterations Specialist is a detail-oriented collaborator for the senior leadership team, working directly with the lead Alterations Specialist to deliver timely, efficient and highest quality fit and alterations for our brides. This position is in-house at our Portland, OR location.

Tailored in White is a luxury bridal alterations house that masters the art of fit, using our bride’s body as our canvas for a perfect fit that would make Beyonce jealous. Working with some of the most couture dresses in our industry, our hand-finishing techniques and high attention to detail has proven to provide our clients with an amazing product and experience. We pride ourselves in educating our customers about the level of skill needed to give them the dress of their dreams, keeping our trade of tailoring alive, and using a portion of our proceeds to further education in tailoring with future generations. What you bring to the table:
- Excellent communications skills with customers and team members, using visual, written, and verbal communication
- Understand pinning process and markings and reconstruct or alter gown with minimal error
- Solid understanding of basic alterations and typical problem areas on luxurious garments in an inclusive environment
- Previous experience in alterations, preferably in bridal and/or couture garments in a client-facing environment
- Large sense of responsibility, understanding the importance of the dress on our bride’s big day, and takes ownership of their part in the process
- The ability to stay organized and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- A genuine passion for sewing and couture finishes - you swoon over perfectly executed pick stitches
- A keen eye for detail and perfectionist character
- Innovative approach to everyday processes, offering feedback and constantly looking to improve and simplify for the greater good of the team
- Proactively seek feedback for performance and opportunities for growth
A day in the life of the Alterations Specialist:
- Read all previous tailoring notes and photos to ensure accurate and precise alterations completed for each appointment
- Provide a luxury experience for all clients, acting as her best friend to give her honest advice and walking the bride through the process
- Schedule subsequent fittings with the client, interacting face-to-face, via phone, text, and email using Tailored In White scheduling model
- Thoroughly review alterations costs, contracts, and customer expectations with each client, educating our bride on the processes, procedures, and costs
- Work directly with the leadership team, planning and organizing appointments and day-to-day project queues to ensure the team is working efficiently
- Alter gowns using industrial sewing machines and couture hand sewing techniques, while staying within production guidelines
- Deliver professionally altered garments by agreed-upon fitting dates and ensuring no dress is left behind
- Pressing, steaming, spot-cleaning and quality checking garments
- Help keep the store looking fresh

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Temporary
Pay: $18.00 - $26.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
