Job Summary and Qualifications

• Provide nursing care and guidance to the breast center patient from screening to initial diagnosis.
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the care according to the nursing process and Oncology Nursing Society Standards of Practice for the breast center patient.
• Partner with patients, families, referring physicians, radiologists, the interdisciplinary team and community resources to provide optimal care.
• Assist in the biopsy process including biopsy scheduling, providing education to the patient about the biopsy process, and to be present with patient during the biopsy (as time allows).
• Track biopsy statistics using electronic medical record (Penrad).
• Provides timely communication with patients that require additional testing or follow-up.
• Obtains all required documentation from referring physicians including orders and prior exams to facilitate continued care for the patient.
• Works closely with the HCA outpatient facilities to coordinate care for breast center patients in the initial stages of diagnosis (i.e. scheduling MRI, surgical appointments, and/or oncology appointments).
• Provides adequate hand-off of the newly diagnosed breast cancer patients to the Sarah Cannon Oncology Navigators.
• Assist with point-of-care blood draw for genetic testing for patients identified as high-risk through the Ambry assessment.
• Assist with placing IV for Contrast Enhanced Mammogram patients and other patients as needed for potential clinical trial purposes.
• Communicates effectively and professionally with internal and external customers.
• Performs job tasks to ensure personal, patient, and departmental safety. Considers effectiveness of
• and cost in planning and delivering care to patients within the department and the cancer center.
• Initiates and documents patient teaching including family and significant others based on assessment of needs. Uses appropriate patient Education documentation modality.
• Presents self in a professional manner.
• The Breast Imaging Nurse Coordinator uses ethical principles as a basis for decision making and patient advocacy.
• The Breast Imaging Nurse Coordinator practices professionally in an evidence-based model, systematically evaluating the quality and effectiveness of care.

What qualifications you will need:

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing required
• VA RN license or valid RN Compact State License required
• Oncology Nursing Certification required
• Masters of Science in Nursing Preferred
• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
