Job description

Applicants will preferably live in the general area of Blanco and/or Gillespie Counties. Since the distillery will become your second home, we don’t want you to drive long distances after a long day. Because of this, we do prefer applicants that live within 40 miles away from Hye.

We are looking for someone to be here long-term. 40 hours per week for full-time and 25 hours per week for part-time - we do work on weekends.

This job can be pretty crazy at times, and only a crazy person would want it. We just need a few folks who are the right kind of crazy.

General Explanation of Position

Once the finest and highest quality bourbon in the world has been produced out here at Garrison Brothers Distillery, someone has to put it into a bottle. It actually takes a lot of “someones”, because we don’t let machines do the work. It’s a demanding gig, actually, but it’s also a whole lot of fun doing it our way.

At Garrison Brothers, we’ve always utilized a volunteer workforce to staff our bottling line, about 25 folks per day, and it’s always kind of a big party. As our distillery has grown in production and sales (and keeps growing still), these volunteer bottling events that occurred only a couple of days per week, a couple of weeks at a time, a few times per year, have quickly become a full-time operation (a party that never ends). We now bottle every day of the week, every week of the year.

So, we are looking for the right folks to assist in all duties associated to the Botting line. If the following responsibilities and qualifications sound good to you, and you think you are up to the task, then please come out for a visit (and bring a resume if you’d like) sometime Tuesday through Friday; plan on hanging out for an hour or two to get a feel for things. This Open House type event will give you the opportunity to see the room in action, get acquainted with the processes, and mingle with the staff (and ask as many questions as you’d like).

Typical Tasks and Responsibilities:

This position reports to the Bottling Line Manager, under direction of the Bottling Director. Below is a list of regular duties that this position will make sure are completed, though responsibilities associated with the position change from time to time.

• Set up, keep stocked, break down, and clean up the bottling line supplies and equipment daily.
• Greeting the volunteers as they arrive
• Being overly hospitable — our volunteers and tour guests are our extended family.
• You will learn, master, and be able to teach every job on the bottling line.
• Teaching the volunteers their stations for the day.
• Keeping the bottling line moving efficiently and safely.
• Entertaining/hosting our guests (while working on several other tasks at light speed).
• Adhere to strict safety guidelines for yourself, fellow staff, and our volunteers.
• Refilling (EXTREMELY HOT) wax pots throughout the day.
• Operating/Maintaining Rosie or Mac (our 4-headed bottle fillers).
• Switching tanks, changing filters, swapping parts, moving barrels, scraping tables, sweeping floors, taking out the trash, separating recycling, etc.
• Speaking aloud to tours that come and go about the bottling process (bragging about what we do and how we do it).
• Making sure everything is off/safe before leaving the bottling room at end of day.
• Must also be eager and willing to help with other distillery/ranch operations, such as:

- assisting the tour guides and/or guiding tours

- Building/preparing orders for shipping to our distributors (palletizing, wrapping, banding, labeling).

- helping set-up for special events and cleaning up after said events

- cleaning restrooms, over and over again

- landscaping projects

- basically, any task around the ranch that needs doing

• Must be neat and organized, organizing and prioritizing duties for yourself are key.
• Must be on time all the time (the early bird gets the hot kolache).
• Takes responsibility for mistakes, errors, omissions, and seek to avoid repeating them.

Additional Desirable Attributes:

• A good sense of humor. This is critical.
• Texan to the bone and Damn Proud Of It!
• Ability to get along with all types of people.
• Accomplished DIYer, or at least pretty good with some duct tape and a hammer.
• Strong math skills would be beneficial, but knowing how to use a calculator will suffice.
• Familiarity and understanding of shipping freight (reading POs, BOLs, etc).
