Reports To: Machine Shop Supervisor / Manager
Summary: The Boring Mill Machinist, Senior is responsible for sets up and operation of the horizontal boring, drilling, and milling machines to perform machining operations.
Responsibilities:
- Operate equipment to mill, drill, boring, and reaming metal workpieces
- Layout workpiece to determine machining required, sequence of operation, tooling, feed, and speed rate, applying knowledge of materials and machining
- Position and secure workpiece to table or angle plate, using clamps, shims, and parallel blocks and verify position with such instruments as dial indicators, gauge blocks, and height gauges
- Setup and mounts tools in spindle
- Adjust controls to set feeds, speeds, and depth of cut, and to position tool and workpiece in relation to each other, verifying position visually, with instruments, such as thickness gauges, and by reading dials
- Verify dimensions of machined workpiece with such measuring instruments as micrometers, telescoping gauges, calipers, and dial indicator.
- Able to do the most complicated of details such as double and compound angles, flimsy frames and close tolerance work.
- Project time reporting for assigned activities through the ERP system
- Adhere to company policies and procedures
- Ensure compliance with safety procedures
- All other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- 5+ years of machine shop experience
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Experience operating Devleig, GNL equipment or Floor mills preferred
- Able to interpret engineering drawings and successfully layout equipment according to prints
- Previous overhead crane experience preferred
- Must know how to utilize and read a tape measure
- Knowledge of shop mathematics, metal properties, and machining procedures
- Team player, able to take direction and be self-directed when needed
- High regard for safety standards
- Strong written and oral communication skills
Work Environment: This position operates in a plant environment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, and twist. Frequently required to lift/push/pull up to 50lbs.
