Works under the general supervision of an employee of higher grade and under the direct supervision, control and responsibility of a licensed physician.
May lead lower level employees as assigned.
- Assists with and coordinates patient scheduling;
- Performs bone density exams, assuming responsibility of patient's care, safety, and physical comfort;
- Reduces patient anxiety by explaining procedure process, answering patient questions and ensuring patient comfort and safety;
- Distributes results to clinics as required;
- Maintains and archives complete patient study;
- Ensures the safe and accurate operation of equipment by completing quality control requirements, referral for preventative maintenance, and following manufacturer instructions;
- Generates quality control records daily in compliance with regulatory standards;
- Maintains and orders supplies;
- Maintains safe and clean work environment;
- Instructs and trains students, residents, fellows and other staff;
- Attends departmental meetings, in-services/conferences as required;
- Maintains patient confidentiality;
- Maintains technical competency through continuing education and participates in sponsored training programs;
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skill and Ability:
Considerable knowledge and proficiency with radiologic, nuclear medicine, and/or Bone Densitometry procedures; considerable knowledge of anatomical positioning and physiology; knowledge of infection control procedures; knowledge of patient monitoring equipment; knowledge of imaging processing through a PACS system; ability to exercise independent judgment; ability to follow oral and written instructions; considerable interpersonal skills to elicit patient cooperation; ability to work under pressure; ability to effectively communicate both oral and written.
Two (2) years Bone Densitometry experience.
Must possess and maintain during employment Registration/Credentialing with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or certification in Bone Densitometry (BD) or certification with the International Society for Clinical Densitometry (ISCD) as a Certified Bone Densitometry Technologist (CBDT), or Certified Clinical Densitometrist (CCD) or a Certified Densitometry Technologist (CDT).
Must possess and maintain during employment a State of Connecticut Radiography licensure, if required.
Must possess and maintain during employment a Basic Life Support [BLS] certificate.
Ability to lift and position patients.
