The Eastern Oregon Correctional Institution, (EOCI), is a male correctional facility with the capacity to house 1,682 adults in custody (AICs). This facility was originally built as a state hospital in 1912 and retrofitted to operate as a correctional institution in 1983.
Your Role
The Boiler Operator is tasked with operating, monitoring, and caring for the boiler that provides heat and energy throughout the institution. EOCI is a 24-hour institution that relies heavily on the work of our Boiler Operators for the safety and health of those in our care.
You will work with a team of skilled and unskilled adults in custody to operate, monitor, maintain, document, and repair the boiler. You will be tasked with ensuring proper feed water and fuel to meet the needs of the institution and safely operate the boilers and machinery. Your position may be asked to advise on the operation, maintenance, and repairs including coordinating internal and external trades-workers in facilitating necessary work.
What We Are Looking For
Desired Attributes
  • Three years of full-time experience with boiler operation
Minimum Qualifications
  • Three years of full-time experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
OR
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
OR
  • Completion of a recognized HVAC/R apprenticeship program or a two-year HVAC/R accredited trade school in heating and air-conditioning or refrigeration AND one year of full-time experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.

Working Conditions
Working in a minimum and medium custody adult correctional facility including daily contact with adults in custody (AIC). Work in metal and fabrications shops.
Requirements for Employment
You must be able to pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following convictions are likely to result in being disqualified for this position: felony convictions, computer theft, identify theft and fraud. CJIS clearance is done at the conditional job offer.

The salary range listed above is for non-PERS qualifying applicants. PERS qualifying applicants may be eligible for an adjusted range. The State of Oregon provides a generous benefit package, which includes family health and dental insurance, optional short and long-term disability and term life insurance – all of which can be tailored to individual needs. Also provided are fully paid retirement program, modest life insurance policy, paid holidays, vacation and sick leave.
