Job description

SEASON/DAYS:

May - September

Saturdays & Sundays


Under general supervision, assists in overseeing the use of an aquatics facility or function.

Assists in overseeing the use of an aquatics facility or function.

Provides excellent customer service, including interacting with customers to answer questions and resolve problems, directs customers to proper locations, and provides information.

Communicates with patrons, lifeguards, and other staff. Reports customer service issues and concerns to supervisor.

Assists with festivals and special events.

Ensures all possible safety measures and rules are being observed. May complete routine safety checks of equipment and the surrounding area in order to maintain safety and health standards.

May be required to work overtime.

May work a varying schedule and/or shift.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Boathouse duties:

In addition to the above listed duties:

Assists with the overall operation of the boathouse, carousel, spray ground and party room.

Checks equipment in and out and assists the public in general.

Loads and unloads pedal boats, carries other needed equipment to and from boat storage.

Assists patrons with life vests while using pedal boats.

May assist in performing routine cleaning, maintenance and repairs of boathouse, party room, restrooms and all other on-site equipment. Resolves problems as situations arise. Arranges assistance with maintenance and repairs if necessary.

May keep accurate records of facility usage, rule violations, and accidents.

May assist with the operation of the carousel, enforcing rules to ensure safety.

May assist in identifying weather conditions that would warrant boats to return to the dock.


Education/Experience:

Must be at least 15 years of age. No education or experience is necessary.


Licensing/Certification Requirements:

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) certificate, First Aid certificate or the ability to obtain certifications within 30 days of hire.

May need the ability to travel to various locations in a timely manner as the job requires.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of the policies, procedures and goals of the city of Thornton and the department.

Knowledge of the principles and practices of water safety.

Knowledge of the principles and practices of effective customer service.

Knowledge of boathouse facilities and equipment used in boathouse programs.

Skill in dealing tactfully and effectively with the public.

Skill in performing lifesaving and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) activities.

Skill in routine repair and maintenance of various equipment.

Skill in maintaining a variety of records related to operations.

Ability to work well with the public.

Ability to react quickly and accurately in emergency situations.

Ability to make sound judgments.

Ability to read, interpret and apply operating policies and procedures.

Ability to assist with special events.

Ability to provide quality customer service.

Ability to listen well and communicate effectively verbally with various audiences.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees, community members and the general public.

Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays, and/or flexible schedules.


Physical and Mental Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, walk, rescue, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, talk, hear, and make repetitive motions. Work is considered medium work which may require exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work may be during the summer months and outside the facilities and will include exposure to all types of weather including extreme heat. Work is also subject to loud noise.

Examinations may include but are not limited to application screening beyond minimum qualifications; written, oral, practical exercise or any combination thereof or other job related assessment deemed appropriate by Human Resources.
