Title: Boarding Agent

Status: Full Time, Exempt

Location: Norfolk, VA

Summary: Act as liaison between ship owner, shipper and terminals to ensure a smooth and fast vessel turnaround. Candidate will be in daily contact with port authorities, US Customs Border Protection, terminal operators, tugs, local vendors, vessel owner, cargo producers, shippers’ representatives.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Coordinate vessel operations including scheduling of vessel movements, ordering pilots, tugs, launch boats, delivery of stores, bunkers, line handling.
• Coordinate operations with port authorities, terminals, U.S. Customs & Border Protection, vessel owner, charterer.
• Boarding vessels at anchorage and port facilities as required.
• Issue final cargo documents
• Manage proforma funding request and final invoice reconciliations
• Ability to manage high volume of emails and answer timely and accurately

Education, Knowledge, Experience:

• Make decisions and execute quickly.
• Bachelor Degree preferred.
• Previous experience in the maritime industry or as Boarding Agent preferred.
• Strong communication skills both written and verbal.

• Ability to multitask.

• Resourceful and entrepreneurial mind.
• Able to cope with deadline and stressful situation with composure.
• Being able to obtain Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC).

• Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays and adapt to changing schedules 24/7/365. The position requires some on call duty some evenings, weekend and holidays.
• A valid driver's license with good record.
• Must process a strong attention to detail.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to board vessels using gangway or ladder either alongside or over open water.

Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs.
