In partnership with individuals and organizations, DNR staff manage fish, wildlife, forests, parks, air and water resources while promoting a healthy, sustainable environment and a full range of outdoor opportunities.
The Wisconsin DNR has a n LTE (Limited Term Employee) - Parks and Recreation Specialist position available at our Black River State Forest, in Black River Falls, WI.
This position is expected to begin in spring 2024, work through the summer, and end in the fall. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone looking to spend their summer in the great outdoors.

Position Summary
Parks and Recreation Specialists are responsible for a combination of outdoor maintenance and/or groundskeeping work in addition to providing customer service for property visitors and/or campers. These positions often operate machinery such as UTV's, ATV's, chainsaws, snowmobiles, hand tools, power tools, mowers, tractors and other motorized vehicles.
30% - Direct and perform the maintenance of grounds and facilities to ensure they conform to established standards to include mow grass, pick up litter, clean public use areas and beaches, painting, maintaining restrooms and campsites, remove trees and brush, repair and maintain trail surfaces, operate vehicles and light equipment and perform repairs and maintenance to equipment and buildings.
30% - Direct other team members and assist in the collection of fees and dissemination of information. Work at entrance stations, campgrounds or other visitor contact stations. Use electronic cash registers, electronic credit card verification equipment and computerized reservation and reporting systems. Register campers; sell admission stickers to public. Provide answers to visitor questions concerning the specific park or geographic area, as well as explain the area's recreational opportunities, interpretive services, concessions and campground availability. Provide information to the public when working across the district on fishery and wildlife properties
20% - Explain State Property rules, regulations and fees to visitors and help with special events. Manage properties and their facilities to protect public health and safety.
15% - Manage the administration of admission sticker sales and other fee charges to efficiently maximize revenues. Assign, audit and process sticker accounts to ensure control of such accounts as well as prompt remittances.
5% - Assist the Recreation Specialist, Ranger, Park Manager and/or Property Superintendent with monitoring the work and performance of other team members or volunteers and any other duties as assigned.
Salary Information
This position pays betw een $15.00 - $18.00 p er hour and is in pay schedule and range 15-04.
Rates offered to selected applicants will depend on the experience of the candidate. Compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.
Job Details
This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position. LTE positions do not automatically lead to permanent state employment or enjoy the same benefits as permanent employees; however, these positions do offer valuable work experience and an opportunity to learn more about career opportunities with the Department of Natural Resources and the State of Wisconsin.
LTE employees are limited to working 1039 hours per position within a twelve-month period.
In order to be considered for this position, you must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and public
- Customer service and cash handling experience
- Knowledge, skills and experience of general maintenance operations
- Ability to work independently, be self-motivated and punctual
- Ability to work a modified schedule; nights, weekends, holidays, etc.
