Full Time, Days. 40 hours/week.

Pay Range is between $32.73-$49.10/hr, depending on years of relevant and like experience.

POSITION SUMMARY

Performs highly skilled technical and advisory work in the installation, maintenance, modification, demonstration, and repair of highly complex diagnostic and therapeutic medical devices.  Provides a high level of technical support and training to clinical departments in area of expertise.  Incumbent may be expected to be present during the clinical use of equipment in area of expertise and assume responsibility for their operation.  In addition, incumbent will be expected to work closely with clinical departments to assist in development of processes/procedures relative to clinical use of technologies in area of expertise.  This position is expected to have the ability to multitask several projects.

A key and active participant in the Technology Management program to effectively and efficiently meet the needs of the hospital and all associated facilities and clinics.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education or Formal Training

  1. Bachelors Degree from an accredited institution in Biomedical Engineering, Electronics or other related field required. A combination of education and related experience may substitute for the degree. Equivalent biomedical military training acceptable.

Special Qualifications (licensure, registration, etc.)

  1. Certified BMET (Biomedical Equipment Technician) required or must be obtained within 12 months of hire
  2. Certified CRES  (Certified Radiology Equipment Specialist) strongly preferred.
  3. Documented completion of factory training on complex, specialty equipment such as Imaging, Laboratory, or OR specific equipment.
  4. Valid Colorado driver’s license required.

Knowledge, Skill and Ability

  1. Knowledge:
  2. of electrical and electronic circuits
  3. of computer network communications systems
  4. of equipment use
  5. of computerized maintenance management systems
  6. of equipment safety policies and procedures
  7. Skills:
  8. in use of electrical and electro-mechanical testing equipment
  9. to read and interpret electrical and electronic circuit diagrams
  10. to make decisions based on good judgement, hospital priorities, cost effectiveness, patient and staff safety, and compliance with local, state, federal and related regulatory agencies
  11. Ability:
  12. to interpret color codes
  13. to provide technical support on biomedical equipment
  14. to diagnose and resolve equipment problems utilizing available data and sensors
  15. to read and interpret technical and service manuals
  16. to utilize electro-mechanical testing equipment
  17. to interact with clinicians for equipment or operator training, problem resolution, equipment planning, and other activities
  18. to perform assigned tasks of position with normal supervision
  19. to workday, evening or night shifts as assigned
Experience
  1. Minimum of 7 years of progressively complex (troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, design and modification) hospital-based biomedical equipment technician experience.
  2. Specialized training and expertise on a specific highly complex biomedical modality or group of modalities that require a high level of skill.  Specialization may require ongoing recertification.  
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Analyzes troubleshoots, and repairs diagnostic and therapeutic medical devices utilizing established electronic test and measurement equipment and techniques.
  2. Installs, calibrates, and tests new medical electronic devices and / or systems.
  3. Preforms scheduled preventive maintenance on medical electronic devices in accordance with manufacturer recommendations, applicable codes, standards, and department policy
  4. Conducts scheduled and unscheduled electrical and functional safety inspections on medical devices.
  5. Helps to maintain an appropriate inventory of parts and stand-by equipment to ensure minimum disruption of patient care.
  6. Assists in training of all hospital staff in the safe use of biomedical equipment; all training shall be documented.
  7. Acts as a resource on highly complex, technical issues and mentors Biomedical Equipment Technician I’s, Biomedical Technician II’s, and Biomedical Assistants to help them grow in ability, responsibility, and experience. 
  8. Interacts with manufacturer representatives to obtain the necessary technical product information.
  9. Assists in research projects and/ or new biomedical equipment maintenance and use.  
  10. Assists in the development of policies and procedures related to equipment maintenance and use.
