To work cooperatively with other teachers in the integration of curriculum, facilitation of students in project-based learning activities, and in the support of students through an advisory relationship.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
  • Prepares adequate written instructions for substitute teachers.
  • Maintains high standards of classroom behavior.
  • Guides the learning process so as to achieve curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Implements, by instruction and action, the corporation's philosophy of education, instructional goals, and objectives.
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  • Must be willing to participate in all District required professional development.
  • Develops and organizes a team-taught technology-based, integrated Chemistry, or Biology curriculum that meets state, administration and District standards.
  • Maximizes opportunities for student success by creating positive working relationships with students.
  • Actively participates in the establishment of rules/regulations and procedures that make sense for this unique teaching and learning environment.
  • Supports principles of Project Based Learning (PBL) and integration of curriculum.
  • Shows confidence in working with new technology and various application packages.
  • Becomes role model for students regarding lifelong learning and professional behavior.
  • Models the learning expectations that students are to accomplish.
  • Takes time to get to know all staff members. Encourages networking, collegiality, mutual support and deep individual and collective reflection among the staff.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the use of technology.
  • Effectively uses computer and technology skills consistent with the school's operating standards.
  • Maintains mandatory daily collaboration amongst teachers.
  • Participates in mandatory summer training.
  • Team teaches (shares classrooms with another teacher) and collaboratively integrates the standards from more than one curriculum base.
  • Creates and maintains an environment that fosters student achievement and the development of lifelong skills.
  • Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment as assigned by Director/Principal.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:
  • Using authentic assessment methods, evaluating student progress and adapting individual programs to meet student needs.
  • Assisting in development of distance learning technologies.

Skilled in:
  • Computer and related software applications.
  • Using modern office equipment.

Ability to:
  • Work cooperatively with other personnel to improve instructional programs and the overall operation of the school.
  • Remain flexible, innovative and adaptive to change.
  • Demonstrate effective teaching and computer skills.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Five years of successful teaching experience at the secondary level. Successful experience in the integration of technology as a tool for instructional delivery.
CERTIFICATION
Possession of a Secondary Science teaching license, certified in Chemistry, Science, Biology.
