DEA's Boise, ID office is seeking a Biologist / Environmental Scientist to help grow our Environmental Permitting and Compliance team. The primary focus for this position will be to prepare environmental permit applications, technical documents, and environmental compliance documentation. The person in this position will assistant senior-level biologists and Project Managers with water, transportation, and land development projects.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct wetland delineations and ordinary high-water determinations within urban and rural settings following state and federal protocols
- Prepare wetland delineation reports and functional assessments
- Prepare Endangered Species Act compliance documents, such as Programmatic Documentation, Biological Assessments and No Effect Determinations
- Prepare Clean Water Act compliance documentation
- Prepare NEPA-related documentation and technical reports
- Coordinate with team members to successfully complete project work
- Coordination with natural resource and permitting agencies
- Conduct fieldwork such as site reconnaissance and species surveys and document the results in technical memos or reports
- Assist with permit compliance during construction
Desired Skills:
- Excellent technical writing skills and strong verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of and experience with state/federal permitting procedures, NEPA documents, technical reports, wetland delineations, and mitigation requirements
- Knowledge of and experience with local plant and animal species
- Ability to work in a highly flexible, team-oriented environment
- Enthusiasm in providing high quality customer service
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Ecology, or related field
- Minimum of 1 years of relevant experience
- Experience with Microsoft Office programs: Word, Excel, Outlook
- Experience with Idaho Transportation Department projects
- Ability to work outdoors in adverse conditions across the western states; must be available for occasional travel
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of and experience with GIS and with GPS equipment and software
- Certification in wetland delineations
