Bioinformatics Engineer

AgriPlex Genomics is seeking a Bioinformatics Engineer with agricultural experience in plant or animal breeding applications to lead bioinformatics projects to support AgriPlex’s PlexSeqTM Genotyping Platform and future products. Projects will include participating in software design, testing, and improvement, developing new analysis workflows, and integrating customer feedback.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Lead and/or execute major bioinformatic projects
• Manage and train other Bioinformatics Scientists and Data Analysts
• Support Operations with bioinformatic needs
• Design, develop, implement, maintain, and improve data processing workflows and procedures
• Support software development for analysis of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data including:

o Providing biological / bioinformatic guidance

o Assisting software developers with determining requirements and specifications for new software

o Assisting software developers with developing and executing software testing plans

• Work with the laboratory and software teams to help prioritize and define internal software development projects
• Provide customer support in bioinformatics and data analysis­

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• PhD. in Bioinformatics with 2+ years of experience
• Experience with plant and animal breeding applications
• Proficiency coding in R (experience in other languages is a plus)
• Proficiency in Unix/Linux environment
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Prior work experience in a breeding company as a bioinformatician preferred

This position requires a highly motivated individual who is able to work independently as well as part of a team. The successful candidate will have excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts.
