Job description

Eagle Global Scientific, LLC is partnering with the CDC and is seeking a Bioinformatician II. NCIRD (Coronavirus and Other Respiratory Viruses CORVD, proposed, formerly DVD/RVB) requires support services to fulfill its mission, goals and objectives related to the prevention of disease, disability, and death from viral diseases of the respiratory system. The purpose of this IDIQ Task Order is to provide professional, technical, scientific, epidemiological and public health support. Services will primarily be performed domestically. The contractor will provide a ready source of management and technical expertise in the following areas: public health, administrative, financial, scientific, medical and project management. These areas of support are often needed as a result of internal decisions and external directives producing short deadlines for implementation. To meet CDC's mission, the management and technical services must provide structured improvements to the deliverance and performance of public health.
Duties to be performed:

  1. Develop analysis workflows for viral genomic sequence data and provide other bioinformatic support for laboratory method development, genomic surveillance, and virological studies
  2. Collaborate with a growing team of virologists, bioinformaticians, informaticians, and epidemiologists to analyze and interpret sequence data to generate reports assessing molecular method performance and the development of national and global laboratory-based surveillance activities
  3. Implement analysis pipelines and provide relevant documentation and training for their usage
  4. Provide technical assistance on a variety of tasks and assignments related to detection of viral genomes in metagenomic data or comparison of genomic data for epidemiologic studies
  5. Develop standard operating procedures and other quality management documentation regarding organization and analysis of viral genome sequence data
  6. Prepare reports, summaries, presentations, papers and other documents to highlight findings, accomplishments, and surveillance data

Qualifications: Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Microbiology, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field; 3-5 years of work experience or post-graduate studies using a programming language such as Perl, Python, or R. Expertise in pipeline development (e.g., Bash, NextFlow) and bioinformatic topics (e.g., phylogenetics, protein modeling, microbiome analysis) is preferred.
