Biochemist Research Scientist

Berkeley Lab’s (LBNL) Biological Systems and Engineering (BSE) Division has an opening for a Biochemist Research Scientist to join the BioEngineering and BioMedical Sciences Department.
In this exciting role, your primary focus will be to perform research investigations into molecular mechanisms of disease risk and susceptibility. This position will identify phenotypic outcomes associated with environmental exposures by using a strategy that integrates systems biology and discovery approaches with mechanistic information to ultimately address key questions concerning the effects of environmental exposures on human health.
This position has an anticipated start date of April 1, 2024.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• A Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Immunology, Genetics, Biostatistics, Biochemistry, Computational Biology, or a related field.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience serving as Postdoctoral Fellow.
• Demonstrated ability to write proposals and obtain funding.

• Provide leadership in the development of a systems level understanding of disease risk.
• Develop and characterize new models for disease risk or processes and pathways involved in disease.
• Scientifically lead work on complex problems and integrate concepts from broadly related areas of research.
• Communicate research accomplishments to principal investigator (PI) and division leadership.
• Participate in group meetings and seminars.
• Assist with writing research proposals and records of inventions.
• Serve as supervisor for early career staff including Research Assistants and Research Associates.
• Train early career staff including Research Assistants and others in the lab who require guidance with cell culture methods and data analysis.
• Maintain appropriate records and manage data, archive cells, and other research materials.
