Form of workBillboard is seeking a News Director to lead its coverage of the music industry, breaking, assigning and editing news stories with clarity and precision under very tight deadlines. This newsroom leader will be based in New York or Los Angeles, will report to the editorial director and will manage a team of business reporters. Must be able to write sharp headlines that drive conversation, be hungry to break news and possess terrific news judgement and instincts. Building relationships with music industry leaders will be key.
Responsibilities:
- Make fast decisions on what news stories to cover and how
- Write, assign, edit and publish news stories
- Use analytics to inform coverage decisions and approach
- Create impactful social copy and headlines for news stories
- Manage team of business reporters
Requirements:
- 5-10 years of experience reporting and editing in fast-paced digital newsroom
- Deep understanding of and interest in the business of music
- Proven ability to forge strong relationships with key industry sources
- Passion and track record of breaking news
- Knack for editing and shaping stories about complicated subjects into simple, compelling reads
- Top-notch line editing skills
Salary range: $120K-150K. Factors that could be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, years of experience and comparison to current employees already in this role. The typical candidate is hired below midpoint of the range. The total compensation package for this position will also include other elements, a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits including 401(k) eligibility and paid time off benefits.
