Job description

The School District of Beloit is seeking a Biliteracy Intructional Coach for Converse Elementary School. This is a permanent/full time position based on a 192 day contract. Must hold or be able to obtain the following required license: #1088/1777/1023/1395. Experience with elementary school age students preferred. Candidate will join a strong, dynamic team of dedicated professional educators focused on continuous improvement. Minority and bilingual speaking candidates are encouraged to apply. Job purpose

The Biliteracy Instructional Coach (BIC) serves as part of the Leadership and Multi Level Systems of Support Teams and is primarily responsible for bringing evidence-based practices into multilingual classrooms by working with and supporting teachers in coaching cycles and supporting administration in order to increase student engagement, culturally responsive practices, improve student achievement, and build teacher capacity. The BIC works as both an agent of change and a colleague with classroom teachers to support student learning and planning and preparation of high-quality instruction. The BIC focuses on individual coaching and group professional development that aligns with district initiatives that will expand and refine the understanding about researched-based effective instruction. In order to meet this purpose, the BIC must be committed to coaching through a lens of equity, helping the district dismantle systems of oppression, and providing anti-racist schooling experiences for all students. They will provide personalized support that is based on the goals and identified needs of individual students and teachers in support of the school's Continuous Improvement Plan (CIP).

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Serves as a collaborative instructional leader by ensuring the adherence to rigorous and relevant academic standards across content areas within a multilingual instructional context through the implementation of district universal curricula, core resources and initiatives.

  2. Plans for professional growth opportunities for teachers by providing them with research-based multilingual strategies and best practices to meet student needs.

  3. Support ELL students and their families in communication and engagement with the school community in regards to attendance, student achievement, student social and emotional progress, etc. This communication and engagement shall be with the support of and/or in collaboration with the Bilingual Home School Liaison.

  4. Plan, organize, and provide instruction that meet state and federal standards, in the language of instruction as deemed appropriate by the context of instruction, the available programming and the needs of the students.

  5. Design, coordinate and deliver culturally and linguistically responsive professional learning opportunities.

  6. Researches and remains current on best practice of culturally responsive teaching and educational equity within multilingual educational settings.

  7. Assists instructional leadership and instructional staff with professional development and effective use of culturally responsive existing and emerging strategies.

  8. Collaboratively works with the Multi Level Systems of Support (MLSS) Team to create and monitor student intervention plans within the district MLSS Framework.

  9. Models the use of technology as an enhancement to student and staff learning.

  10. Assists the administrative team with the development and facilitation of the Continuous Improvement Plan.

  11. Identification of school level teaching and learning needs, as well as barriers and challenges, by analyzing student data, and organizing and implementing problem-solving actions with teachers (in teams and individually) to refine their knowledge and skills.

  12. Primary support for teachers will include, but not be limited to, in-class coaching, observing, modeling of instructional strategies, guiding teachers in analysis of student work, developing lesson plans with teachers based on student needs, supporting data analysis, supporting the integration of technology, co-planning with teachers, and supporting students through digital literacy and conducting classroom walkthroughs.

  13. Assists in collaborative development of district-wide diagnostic and benchmark assessments.

  14. Establishes and maintains confidential relationships with teachers. The conversations and interactions that the coach has with teachers must always remain confidential so that a high level of trust is created and maintained between the teacher and the coach.

  15. Collaborates with the STEAMM Instructional Coach, Literacy Instructional Coach and building leadership team.

  16. Work collaboratively in professional learning communities and support district initiatives as an agent of change.

  17. Provides support to students through interventions.

  18. Performs additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  1. Wisconsin teaching certificate.

  2. Wisconsin DPI Bilingual Licensure 1023 or 1395 ESL Licensure.

  3. Minimum 5 years' experience teaching, with a record of successfully impacting student achievement and working successfully with students who have the greatest needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Master's degree in Education.

  2. Demonstrated language proficiency in Spanish.

  3. Reading License 1316 or Reading Specialist 5017 or able to obtain either within 2 years.


Working Conditions
Uses keyboard, mouse, or other alternative input device. Converses and is understood verbally and in written form. Works in a stationary position for up to four hours at a time. Organizes and prioritizes own work as well as the work of others, often multitasking. Frequently works long and irregular hours. Regularly operates a motor vehicle to attend meetings in various locations. Makes presentations, both formal and informal. Responsible for decisions that have a significant business impact to the School District of Beloit.
