NAFI CT's newest program provides compassionate, trauma informed, short term residential care for unaccompanied children. The program offers robust clinical, therapeutic, educational and case management services to young women ages 12-17 while working to reunite them with family members or other identified sponsors.
Youth Care Counselor Essential Functions:
  • Serve as key staff member for clients assigned to you, assuring supervision and accountability
  • Be available to fulfill staff vacancies on an as needed basis
  • Maintains professional boundaries.
  • Ensures that client safety is a priority.
  • Ensures that client success is paramount by implementing an effective daily schedule that creates a culture to inspire clients to achieve goals.
  • Demonstrates/role models strong interpersonal skills, pro-social behaviors and professional responsibility to internal and external community.
  • Demonstrates Computer literacy, by utilizing an electronic health record to ensure timely, accurate, and well-written documentation of clients' activities
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings.
  • May participate in and facilitate program group sessions when appropriate.
  • Prepares summaries of interactions and objective behavioral observations of clients at the end of each shift.
  • Participates in staff training, maintains certifications as appropriate and required, and demonstrates the ability to pass proficiency test(s), where appropriate.
  • Provides safe transportation for clients as necessary.
  • Perform crisis prevention and interventions including de-escalation techniques
  • Completes other related duties as assigned.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with the Agency's policies and procedures.

Requirements:
  • High school Diploma Required
  • Per contract this position requires a minimum age of 21+
  • Driver's License Required
  • 1 year or more of healthcare, child welfare, human service and/or social service experience
  • Required Bilingual (Spanish/English)
  • Weekend shifts are required for all positions
  • Willing to transport children to Tri-state airports with company vehicle
  • Comfortable with a fast-paced environment
  • Medication certified required (NAFI will assist with obtaining certificate)
