Bilingual Spanish Skills Trainer - Long Term Group Home

Salary Range: Bilingual Spanish Range $22.06-$23.47/hour

In Person, Full Time (40hrs/week *benefits eligible)

6 month temporary position, End Date: April 23, 2024 (many youth care positions remain open, so there is often option to transfer to a youth care worker position after temporary position ends, but this is not guaranteed)

Seeking candidate with childcare experience to support adolescents living in Morrison's Long Term Group Home serving immigrant youth by connecting them with culturally specific services and preparing them with life skills.

Morrison Child and Family Services is a non-profit organization providing a continuum of trauma-informed, culturally responsive programs and services for youth and families in residential, shelter, respite, foster care, community & school-based outpatient, family preservation, and prevention services. As one of the largest mental health and substance use recovery agencies serving 7,000 youth in Portland, Oregon, and the state of Washington, our goal is to promote a vibrant culture of self-care, creativity, and overall resilience that contribute to the success of our youth and families.

About the Program:ORR Immigrant Youth Services - LTGH

Our Long-Term Homeprovidesservices toup to20 adolescents at one time (ages 14-17 years old) in a co-ed residential facility setting. The youth, typically from Latin America and occasionally other countries live in our Long-Term Group Home, while they await family reunification or other placement options. They attend public school and other community activities.

Job Summary:

The Skills Trainer is responsible for providing behavioral and vocational support and training to identified unaccompanied minors in the program.

Job DutiesFull Job Description available or interview stage or earlier by request:

  • Supervises clients and provides skill building activities in a residential setting for unaccompanied minors that may include classroom settings, recreational outings, educational and community activities as well as activities in the foster home.

  • Provides a safe environment for the clients, including therapeutically interacting with clients and setting clear expectations for appropriate behaviors.

  • Provides on-going behavioral skill building for identified minors according to their treatment plan or behavioral plan.

  • Strengthens vocational training program for youth preparing to age out or transfer to lesser-restrictive setting.

  • Monitors clients when in the community to assure for safety and compliance with tasks.

Experience/Education Requirements

  • At least 21 years of age

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required (Diploma, GED or college transcripts required step of hiring process)

  • Minimum of one year of employment experience in the child welfare field working with children and/or adolescents in a social service setting

  • Basic computer skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, databases and Outlook

  • Bilingual in Spanish REQUIRED

Other Requirements:

  • Pass a DHS criminal history background

Physical Requirements:

  • The person in this position needs to frequently move around the residential site including up stairs and on outings and possible travel

  • Constantly positions self to maintain site, including under the desks and access supplies up high. and the ability to possibly perform physical restraints of clients.

  • Position requires moving youth from different rooms in Milieu, checking on youth throughout Milieu, and transitioning activities with youth consistently.

  • We serve youth that can become escalated in behavioral circumstances, and this position will be required to participate in and lead de-escalation frequently and physically de-escalate or restrain occasionally. Proper training on techniques that are safe for youth and staff is provided at time of hire.

  • The person in this position frequently communicates with clients and staff with various inquiries. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations
