Position Description: Waynesboro Office Manager
Sin Barreras (Without Barriers) is a nonprofit with a mission of empowering immigrants and their families in central Virginia, focusing on the Hispanic population, by educating, advocating and supporting their needs. We need a resourceful and responsible self-starter to lead and develop our Waynesboro, VA office, and build the connection with our local immigrant and broader community. This Office Manager position will not have direct reports, but will work with and coordinate service providers and volunteers to meet the needs of our primarily Spanish speaking neighbors. This is a part-time, 24 to 30 hours per week, position primarily working from 2 to 7 pm Monday to Thursday and occasionally outside those times.
Responsibilities include:
- Establish presence and connection with Hispanic community of the area
- Help develop and define services to meet priority needs of area Spanish speakers
- Manage office revenue and expenses
- Maintain or improve organization of physical and electronic systems
- Make productive use of volunteers to support various functions
- Track and respond to requests from clients and agencies
- Build relationship with key community organizations
- Take a lead role for the success of Sin Barreras events run out of this office
- Manage their time and the office in collaboration with guidance of leadership
- Learn and promote the mission, vision, and values of Sin Barreras
- Experience working in an office providing customer service
Skills and Characteristics:
- Good listener who is reliable and able to follow through on commitments
- Able to work independently, can be self-sufficient and effective at managing their time
- Have patience, care and compassion for working with immigrants
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish
- Organized self-starter able to set priorities
- Proficient technical skills (Microsoft and Google Applications)
- Ability to work in a changing environment with an evolving organization
- Passion for the cause of all human rights
We are a small, but growing organization working in a space with enormous need. We are looking for candidates that believe in our mission and are willing to grow with us. Compensation will be $18 to $25 per hour, depending on experience; however, we believe this opportunity is best fit for candidates who are also looking to gain valuable hands-on non-profit experience at the grassroots level.
