Benefits/Pantry Specialist

Commonpoint Queens Adult Workforce Department consists of employment and wraparound support programs serving job seeking adults 18 and over, including opportunity youth ages 18-24. The department provides access to food, occupational training, education, resources, and support programs for individuals who are motivated to enter the workforce.

The Benefit/Pantry Specialist must be self-motivated learner, efficient problem solver and have ability to provide care and supportive services to clients. They will work closely with all members of the staff and assist with all the facilities and operational aspects of our storage and deliveries, in addition to assisting clients in applying for state benefits.



RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE JOB

  • Assist food pantry coordinator in receiving and packing orders
  • Make sure that received food packets are sorted, stocked, and stored in an appropriate manner
  • Ensure proper refrigeration of frozen items and perform rotation duties as necessary
  • Collect appropriate data to determine food needs in specific areas
  • Ensure appropriate packaging of food and ensure packed food is delivered to the right agency in a time-efficient manner
  • Ensure maintenance and cleanliness of the food pantry
  • Make sure that all surfaces in the food pantry are sanitized in accordance with the standards of the organization
  • Manage the front desk of the food pantry and provide information to visitors and clients
  • Handle the intake process according to the company’s regulations
  • Must be able to drive and be willing to travel between multiple agency sites and within the NYC Metro area. Occasional weekend and evening hours will be necessary
  • Prepare and communicate information to clients and staff regarding benefits procedures, changes to benefits, and address (potential) interruptions in benefits with preemptive action.
  • Assist clients with initial screening, intakes, enrollment, direct client support, and follow up services.
  • Assist clients with all program inquiries and questions, provide assistance as needed.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
  • High School Diploma, Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • 2+ years experience with public benefit programs
  • Bilingual in Spanish required
  • Strong organizational, time management, written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in computer-based information systems, including but not limited to Google suite

Schedule: Monday-Friday; some evening hours required
