Job description

BigIron is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented professional to join our team as a Benefits and Total Rewards Specialist. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in designing, implementing, and managing our employee benefits programs and Total Rewards initiatives. This position requires a deep understanding of compensation structures, employee benefits, and a commitment to ensuring our workforce is rewarded and motivated to achieve organizational goals.


Essential Functions:

  • Manage the day-to-day administration of employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, wellness programs, and other perks.
  • Coordinate open enrollment processes and provide guidance to employees on benefit options.
  • Liaise with benefits providers to resolve issues and ensure effective communication of benefits information to employees.
  • Collaborate with HR and leadership to develop and implement a comprehensive Total Rewards strategy aligned with the organization's goals and values.
  • Conduct market research and benchmarking to ensure our compensation and benefits packages remain competitive and attractive in the industry.
  • Administer and maintain the company's compensation structure, ensuring internal equity and external competitiveness.
  • Analyze compensation data, identify trends, and provide recommendations for adjustments based on market and industry standards.
  • Deliver thoughtful and effective program rollouts, enhancements and training to the company, ensuring full understanding of Benefits and Total Rewards strategy, programs and value.
  • Leverage monetary rewards and non-monetary recognition as methods to promote employee engagement and retention.
  • Use a data-driven approach to continuously improve compensation, benefits, and perks programs through the use of surveys, market data/analysis and external partners.
  • Execute work in partnership with cross functional stakeholders at all levels of the organization with a goal of ensuring understanding and alignment of Total Rewards programs.
  • Stay current on laws and regulations related to employee Benefits and compensation.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal requirements and prepare reports as necessary for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Responsible for the coordination of leave management including FMLA, Work Comp, STD, LTD and other types of leave by consulting with co-workers, managers, and health care professionals to evaluate the need for, develop, and implement accommodations, return to work, light duty, and other responses for disabled employees. Tracks and manages entire leave process.
  • Oversee OSHA reportable incidents and annual reporting.
  • Spearhead safety committee. Sets agenda, takes minutes and follows up on action items.
  • Develop competitive and cost-efficient programs that will assist with employee retention and attract top talent.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by management or required by the position.

Qualifications/Requirements:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience as Benefits Specialist or in a related role managing benefit program design and implementation in multi-state company.
  • In depth knowledge in working with self funded plans.
  • Experience leading leave management.
  • Strong Understanding of federal and multi state regulations pertaining to benefits (FMLA, ERISA, COBRA, ADA, workers' comp, Medicare, etc.)
  • Proven experience leading, implementing and scaling Total Rewards programs, addressing both short-term and long-term goals.
  • HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) is a plus.
  • Health and Safety Management Certifications, preferred.
  • Experience developing profit-sharing, incentive, employee wellness, and performance management programs.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
  • Must have excellent process management skills and strong attention-to-detail including the ability to coordinate multiple complex tasks simultaneously.
  • Must have strong follow-through skills.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, etc.
  • Experience managing Benefits and compensation in a Human Resources Information System.
