We are seeking a Benefit & Eligibility Worker to join our District 12 Virtual Team!
This position can be fully remote. The successful candidate may be approved a remote schedule to telework from home after training is completed. Schedule is determined after training and according to the office needs and is subject to change. General schedule is 8:00 AM- 5:00 PM, weekdays. Some variances in your work schedule may occur based on the work need. Staff may be required to come into the office for ongoing trainings, meetings, and reviews.

Your duties at a glance:
Self-Sufficiency Programs Mission:
To provide a safety net, family stability and a connection to careers and resources that guide Oregonians out of poverty.
As a Virtual Benefit & Eligibility Worker, you will:
  • Determine initial financial eligibility for Medicaid, APD Financial Eligibility, TANF, Domestic Violence services, SNAP, Medical and Employment Related Day Care applicants.
  • Interview applicants by phone and in-person to gather information needed to assess and determine if there is a need for services and benefits.
  • Assessing client family needs, referring families to other resources and programs.
  • Provide thorough documentation in a narrative report summarizing new information from client and collateral sources, as well as any actions taken on a case.
  • Attend Trainings and Meetings on a regular basis to ensure you always have the most up to date information.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • You must be an Oregon resident.
Working conditions:
  • Contact with the public, including contact with Oregonians experiencing emotional and financial stress.
  • Serve a diverse range of customers with compassion and professionalism through a trauma informed lens.
  • Will require sitting at a computer or telephone for prolonged periods of the workday, often workstations available to accommodate sitting and standing, but not always.
  • Experience high volume of computer work, using various computer programs in a fast-paced environment.
  • Priorities, Processes, and procedures may change daily and require the ability to be very flexible in application of procedures.
What you need to qualify
  • Two years of experience determining eligibility for an agency program by interviewing to assess the needs of clients, and interpreting and applying the policies, rules, and guidelines that are applicable to the client's situation.
  • Any college courses may be substituted for the two years of general experience on a year-for-year basis (45 quarter hours is equivalent to one year of experience).

The most qualified candidates will possess these essential skills:
  • Experience working in a social/human service setting interviewing customers over the phone.
  • Experience accurately using basic mathematics in a work environment.
  • Experience creating and maintaining written documentation of the activities concerning individual client.
  • Experience communicating decisions, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures to clients or customers.
** Bilingual skills are Encouraged, but not a requirement for this position.
