Our team at Morning Star is seeking Part-time Behavioral Support staff to provide care, empathy, and a commitment to helping our kids ages 6-13 grow and learn.
Who We Are
We are a dedicated team passionate about providing support for youth who are vulnerable and have experienced significant adversity and trauma in their lives. Our Behavioral rehabilitation services (BRS) program is on the South Hill in Spokane, WA is home to up to 23 kids between 6-13 years, and we have been supporting youth since 1957! Agricultural programming is included in our program with the opportunity to work with the kids with horses, goats, chickens, gardening, and more.

Job Summary:
Provide high standards of direct care supervision and support, safety, protection, and care of children who have experienced abuse and neglect individually and in group core services. Engage, and develop rapport with clients from various backgrounds, teach, and facilitate recreational activities. Model life skills. Demonstrate consistency and behavioral limits through relationship-based interventions. Communicate effectively to solve problems in a collaborative manner. Administer and document behavior management plans, and use of verbal and physical intervention with volatile clients. Transport clients.

Behavior Support Staff duties will include:

Maintain confidentiality in compliance with Health and Human Services, Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA) and meet requirements of all other county and State Agencies
Provide adequate supervision to ensure safety; may include the need to run after or walk for long distances in pursuit to maintain the safety of the client
Use verbal interventions and physical techniques as trained to maintain the safety of the client in situations that clients present as escalated or assaultive
Responsible for various written, typed, and verbal communication documentation and reports
Demonstrate professional boundaries, through appropriate behavior, conversations, language, humor, tone of voice, and body language, with a positive attitude and role model for the client
Use "teachable moments" or windows of opportunities to teach life skills, and self-awareness concepts, such as housing responsibilities, banking, shopping, bill payment, meal preparation, hygiene, and appearance
Prepare meals, serve, document meals, and teach according to policies and procedures
Supervise and assist with chores, and follow through on household and vehicle appearance.
Look for and document any safety breaches and provide fire/emergency drills and document
Follow policies on safety ensuring safety compliance for both personal and company vehicles, cabinets, med room; all areas that are required to be locked are kept locked
Implement CPR and First Aid policies and procedures.
Transport clients using the MSBR vehicle adhering to MSBR policies.
Participate in meetings/training; implement policies and treatment plans that meet MSBR and program standards
Offer and document medication to the client as prescribed and according to the policy
Requirements
Must be at least 21 years old
Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable through company vehicle insurance
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent AND one year of experience working directly with children Or;
Two+ years of social service-related education
