Position Overview
The Behavioral Intervention Specialist provides programmatic support through a clinical lens.
- On call 24/7 to provide emotional support as needed for crisis situations and assist with de-escalation, both in person and via phone.
- Provide support with development and supervision of clinical department.
- Assist with intake and discharge, this includes but is not limited to attending intake meetings, completing assessments, and conducting observations.
- Collaborate with programs to ensure proper development, implementation, and oversight of Behavior Support Plans (BSPs).
- Develop and facilitate trainings which include but are not limited to Behavior Support Plans, clinical specific trainings, etc.
- Facilitate in-person trainings as needed, this includes but is not limited to hands on staff trainings, modeling, observations, etc.
- Provide 1:1 person specific support and facilitate groups with people supported as needed.
- Oversee workshops and training on a variety of different topics inclusive of self-advocacy, self-care, positive relationships, healthy habits, etc. for programs as needed.
- Attend/Chair IRC, HRC and IDT meetings as needed.
- Become a trained SCIP instructor and provide training as necessary.
- Conduct observations as needed for those requiring additional clinical support.
- Responsible for overseeing assessments and planning for people supported through all programs.
- Provide clinical support to all programs in accordance with regulations.
- All other assignments deemed necessary by supervisor.
- Demonstrate Ethical and Professional Behavior: Understands frameworks of ethical decision making and how to apply principles of critical thinking to those frameworks in supervision and practice. Effectively recognizes personal values and the distinction between personal and professional values.
- Engage Diversity and Difference in Practice: Understands how diversity and differences characterize and shape the human experience and are critical to the formation of identity. Assist with developing and overseeing support plans that are person centered.
- Collaboration: Ensure people supported and staff have the tools and support needed to enjoy safe and meaningful experiences within the community. Utilizes strategies to understand human behavior and the social environment, and critically evaluate and apply this knowledge to effective interventions.
Qualifications
- Age Requirement: Minimum age of 18.
- Experience: Minimum 1-5 years of experience working directly with people with developmental disabilities including developing, implementing, and maintaining Behavioral Support Plans (BSP), required
- Must meet the qualifications to approve Behavior Support plans set forth by OPWDD. See section 32 in the guidance for specifications. (i.e., LCSW)
- Valid Driver's License, required
- Educational Qualification: Master's Degree in related fields such as: Psychology, Human Services, Social Work, Mental Health, etc., required.
- On Call Flexible availability including on call 27/7 including varied hours (nights and weekends), in person and remote.
- Physical Demands: The nature of tasks may vary based on the individuals being supported. This may include assisting with toileting and hygiene, which could involve lifting. Reasonable accommodations will be considered to enable individuals with disabilities to fulfill essential job functions.
