I. INTERRELATIONSHIPS

Addiction Recovery Institute of America, LLC open door policy allows for the interrelationships of all employees. The BHT is an integral position requiring that the employee maintain open lines of communication with ARIA staff to facilitate the flow of information among ARIA clients and employees. In addition, he/she must function within the organizations policies and procedures and in accordance with all State and Federal Regulations.

II. POSITION PURPOSE

A BHT helps doctors, nurses and clinicians with the treatment of patients who have various behavioral problems, such as substance abuse, post-traumatic stress disorder, mental instability and physical and emotional abuse.

IV. SPECIFIC AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

A. Adherence to clinical and nursing responsibilities as described in the BHT Handbook provided upon hire.

B. Assist Residential Manager/BHT Supervisor with adherence to EOC rounds and preservation of agency’s safe and therapeutic environment. C. Assist with gathering information for the implementation of the patient treatment and care plan. D. Provide support to nurses in patient care.

E. Treat clients with dignity and respect. F. Works daily with patients to provide support, encouragement, and guidance (create and maintain therapeutic environment). G. Ensure proper procedures are thoroughly followed during intake process (document patient information appropriately in Sunwave). H. Assists in emergency situations as directed. Know the necessary protocols. I. Ensures patients attended scheduled groups and activities. J. Understands and maintains confidentiality of patient information and records. K. Recognizes crisis situations and provides appropriate interventions based on training and experience (de-escalation protocols).

L. Attend monthly staff meetings; responsible for obtaining information if not in attendance.

M. Share pertinent information with senior management and operations team.

N. Perform other duties as assigned.

V. GENERAL EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT

This position requires reasoning and language skills at the high school graduate level.

VI. AGE SPECIFIC INDIVIDUALS SERVED RESPONSIBILITY

The clients of Addiction Recovery Institute of America, LLC are adults over the age of 18 with substance abuse and other obsessive compulsive and psychiatric disorders.

VII. WORKPLACE ENVIRONMENT

Offices with access to computer, printer, copy machine, fax machine, scanner, telephone, supervisor, and management for consultation purposes; ergonomically correct seating.

VIII. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

This position requires work in a temperature-controlled environment. Approximately 60% of time is spent indoors in temperatures of approximately 72-78 degrees. Outside activities may expose employees to temperatures in excess of 96 degree with high humidity. There is a potential exposure to violent situations, airborne and blood borne pathogens or other potentially infectious materials.

IX. PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position involves standing, walking, bending, crouching, carrying, pushing, pulling, sitting, reading, reaching, stair climbing, air flight and driving. The percentage of time utilizing each physical demand varies according to the individual’s role in the continuum of care. Moderate lifting/lowering in the range of 20 to 50 pounds may also be required during employment.

X. MENTAL DEMANDS

This position requires extensive work with other individuals. Additionally, the position may create a high level of mental stress although this is not the intent. You are expected to consistently take care of yourself physically, mentally, and spiritually in order to perform this function.

XI. MACHINES/EQUIPMENT USED

Computer, fax machine, telephone system, calculator, copy machine, printer, scanner, company vehicles.

XII. POSITION CATEGORY UNIVERSAL PRECAUTIONS

Routine tasks involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues. All procedures or other job-related tasks involve an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids or tissues or a potential for spills or splashes of fluids present a potential risk for exposure.

Direct supervision is provided by the Medical Director.

Performance standards are integrated within the position responsibilities. The principle functions of the position identified shall not be considered a complete description of all the work requirements and expectations that may be inherent in the position.

III. POSITION REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS

A. EDUCATION

  1. Associate degree or certification in mental health technology or psychiatry technology preferred; Experience equivalent to this at the discretion of the Executive Director.
  2. High School Diploma Required.
  3. Continuous on-the job training.

B. QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

  1. Minimum of (1) years of experience and/or demonstrated experience.
  2. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed to meet the needs of program operations and supported individuals.
  3. Demonstrate proficiency in written and verbal skills.
  4. Computer literacy including but not limited to company’s EMR, Microsoft Office Suite/Excel and Word.
  5. Customer service experience preferred.
  6. Minimum of one year professional experience in mental health/Behavioral Healthcare field preferred.
  7. Professional Demeanor, and ability to act professionally with clients and staff at all time.
  8. Transporting patients to and from locations on a daily basis.
  9. The position requires walking and standing for long periods of times.
  10. Knowledge of State and Federal Statutes as they relate to the treatment of substance abuse including Client Confidentiality Laws and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  11. Knowledge of Drug Free Workplace Policies.
  12. Knowledge of Potential Workplace Violence.
  13. Knowledge of Corporate Integrity and Compliance.
  14. Knowledge of DCF Standards for Substance Abuse and Mental Health Treatment.
  15. Knowledge of the Joint Commission Inc. Standards.
  16. Knowledge of Title I Standards of Care.

C. LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION

  1. Maintain valid Florida driver’s license.
  2. First Aid/CPR/AED
