POSITION SUMMARY

The Behavioral Health Specialist for awake, overnight shift is responsible for providing structure and organization for the overnight needs of residents residing in a 24-7 Adolescent Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility. This position attends necessary meetings related to the overnight shift to ensure consistency with overnight duties and expectations of the position.
The Behavioral Health Specialist for awake, overnight shift will support the milieu through supervision of residents. This position ensures compliance with facility rules and regulations by the residents through consistent communication and goal reinforcement. The awake, overnight shift will summarize and type daily scores from the floor and school; input daily logged symptoms; and scan and file daily reports.

Full time positions are staggered throughout Sunday through Thursday.  The part time positions are Friday and Saturday shifts.

This role is similar to those that are titled Youth Program, Residential Program, Youth Care Worker, Youth Worker, Direct Support Worker or Professional.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Treatment Plan - Participates in the treatment planning and review process; Monitors residents to ensure individual adherence to treatment plans.  

Direct Care - Supervises residents with daily living activities; Positively reinforces goals and objectives of individual treatment plans; Promotes appropriate behaviors while emphasizing and utilizing resident strengths; Monitors resident behavior and responds to and/or reports accordingly; Uses behavior management techniques to de-escalate, redirect, or participate in physical restraints; Administers medication, if medication trained, during the overnight and mornings as per doctor’s orders; Promotes a therapeutic milieu and appropriate socialization; and Performs functions related to the direct care of residents. 

Communication - Consistent communication with on-call personnel, staff, parents/guardians; Completes and inputs daily logs. Checks for completion and quality logs by staff; and Communicates with supervisors regarding the overnight input of data and issues that arise during the shift.

Record-keeping and Documentation - Complete appropriate documentation accurately and timely; Completes Unusual Occurrence/Incident Reports.

Facility Security and Maintenance - Conducts room checks and clothing searches; Ensures residents comply with facility rules and regulations including check in/out procedures; Assists with Laundry; Assists with facility cleaning and organization. 

Other Duties - Operates a motor vehicle to transport residents to various outside activities and doctor appointments; Follows process and communication methods consistent with performance quality improvement standards; and Other duties as assigned. 

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

- Must be 21 years of age required

- Certified Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training within 90 days of employment (offered onsite) required

- Must successfully pass Fit-For-Duty Health Screen prior to start of employment required

- Strong computer skills required with competence in data entry using Microsoft Office 365 WORD and EXCEL required

- Driver’s License is required

- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services preferred

- 1 year of mental health experience preferred

MENTAL/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

- Work potentially involves moderate risk to personal safety of injury, illness or health problems arising from the environment or the public/clients. 

- Considerable requirement to exert moderate physical effort with a regular and repeated need to lift and bend.  Exertion may require pushing, pulling, and/or carrying up to 50 lbs. and may cause moderate physical discomfort.  Safety precautions are required. 

- Usually normal concentration and deadlines with periodic periods of sustained deadline pressure.  Work may involve changing problems, circumstances, or demand.

- Work is subject to the physical and emotional behavior of youth requiring employees to work in adversarial and/or hostile environments and situations.

- Varying shifts with less than 10% travel include:

- - Overnight shifts - The full time are staggered throughout Sunday through Thursday.  Part time are Friday and Saturday shifts.

- - Holiday rotation
