Job Description
SCOPE OF POSITION
The Behavioral Health Intake Coordinator is responsible for collecting essential data prior to placement with a practitioner and determining the best fit for the individual seeking services. The Intake Coordinator will engage in discussion with prospective clients to collect relevant psychosocial data, understand their needs and goals, address any questions the client may have regarding the services offered, and determine which practitioner best fits the specified needs of the client.
The Behavioral Health Intake Coordinator must be comfortable engaging in conversations that may illicit strong emotional reactions or require proper risk assessment with a practitioner. This position will necessitate that the team member relies on the clinical team for education and assistance.
Areas of responsibility include:
- Working closely with the referral coordinator to schedule an intake session with clients in an efficient manner.
- Collaborating with case management to ensure that prospective clients meet the facility’s intake criteria and to provide appropriate referrals when necessary.
- Continual striving for improvement through process development and the attendance of relevant trainings.
- Interviewing prospective clients in order to review their psychosocial history, needs, goals and expectations for treatment, and needs that are relevant to therapeutic intervention.
- Administering brief screening tools that are determined by the presenting problems of the prospective client.
- Performing other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE - High school diploma or equivalent required
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, or related field preferred
Skills: - Interpersonal skills—active listening and excellent communication skills
- Ability to convey information clearly and concisely in written form
- Conflict resolution- ability to remain calm and collected in stressful situations
- Basic working understanding of psychological terminology and common mental health screening tools
- Respect for HIPAA requirements and compliance with the confidentiality expectations of mental health professionals
- Working knowledge of local community resources
