Behavioral Economist
Job Summary:
This 100% remote resource will be responsible for planning, designing, and conducting original technical studies and programs of economic and statistical analysis and research concerning the characteristics, dynamics, and interrelationships of the U.S. healthcare workforce and utilization. Such projects require not only initial development but also continuing research to improve and maintain current models and data and to identify the need for special studies.
Responsibilities:
Supports the development and improvement of data and methodology in mathematical/statistical models that attempt to reflect or reproduce the functioning of the health care system and its component markets, including the effects and interrelationships of demand, supply, and other considerations.
The incumbent is expected to locate and analyze suitable sources of data to estimate the parameters of models and analyze survey data and other large publicly accessible data sets.
These studies require expertise using one or more statistical software package(s) (e.g., R, Stata, SAS), and numerous data sources that must be compiled and coordinated.
Analyzes and researches a series of health workforce topics requiring multiple large data sets. Examples include the labor supply of health professionals, geographic distributions, and utilization of those services.
Carries out a series of data-gathering activities designed to acquire among others, updated data sets, using primary and secondary sources, and the contracting process.
Incumbent evaluates and recommends these new data into existing or newly developed forecasting models and/or estimates appropriate model parameters.
Reports the progress and conclusions of projects in professionally written reports and publications for technical and non-technical audiences
Education/Certifications:
Individuals should possess one of the following: Ph.D. or Masters, or a BS in Economics
3+ years of specialized experience.
3+ years of experience with Python, R, and ArcGIS
Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Examples of qualifying experience include individual economic research assignments requiring planning, information assembly, analysis and evaluation, conclusions, and report preparation; supervisory or project coordination assignments involving a staff of professional economists and requiring the evaluation and interpretation of economic information.
Additionally, experience with communication and collaboration with stakeholders across multifaceted organizations, identifying opportunities, communicating findings, and delivering actionable insights.
