POSITION: Behavior Intervention Specialist
SALARY RANGE: Licensed Staff Salary Schedule plus School District Comprehensive Benefits Package. We accept up to thirty years of experience. Salary Range of $45,000-$97,088 depending on experience and education with additional opportunities for tuition reimbursement. Salary placement will include an additional five steps as a hard to staff position.

SUMMARY:
The Behavior Intervention Specialist will consult and collaborate with all Weld Re-8 Schools and the ESS Department, with the focus being on behavioral interventions and strategies for students with disabilities but will also include general education student behavior concerns or issues. The Behavior Intervention Specialist will work directly with the ESS Director and building level principals in the development of Behavior Intervention plans and strategies. This position requires strong communication skills and will be responsible for facilitating and leading discussions with parents and building leadership as it relates to student behavior plans and strategies.
The Behavior Intervention Specialist, will evaluate, diagnose, and provide support for students with behavioral issues, and will be responsible to formulate individualized treatment programs, develop Behavior Intervention plans (BIP's) , keep appropriate records, and inform faculty and parents about students' progress. The specialist will also be responsible for professional development and training of district staff.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION/JOB DESCRIPTION:
  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field is required, state license in Special Education required
  • Master's degree in Special Education or related field is preferred
  • Degree in Behavior Management or similar field is preferred
  • Must be either CPI qualified or willing to become certified as district trainer
  • A minimum of 1-2 years experience is required, but five + years of experience working in the Behavior Intervention field is preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide support and work collaboratively with building leadership in the provision of behavioral best practices for staff.
  • Assist staff in: defining and measuring behavior; understanding principles of reinforcement; teaching new behavior; implementing strategies for weakening behavior; and identifying antecedents.
  • Facilitate team meetings with the identified student's teachers and parents for the purpose of completing a Functional Behavioral Assessment.
  • Facilitate team meetings that: design Behavior intervention Plans; address classroom organization, effective instruction, social skills instruction, and ethical issues; School-wide Positive Behavioral Support; and factors that affect effectiveness including social validity and treatment integrity.
  • Responsible for supporting the ESS team with the IEP process by collecting and providing data on student behaviors. Will help with the development of FBA's and BIP's. Will help in the development of behavior goals.
  • Provide support and professional development training to staff related to the development of skills necessary to implement and monitor student behavior progress using district instructional programs, interventions and instructional tools.
  • Monitor and evaluate affective needs program effectiveness and guide improvement processes as needed through the development of procedures and identification of training needs for instructional and paraprofessional staff.
  • Work with individual teachers, groups of teachers and/or the entire staff on issues such as: crisis intervention, learning and collaboration issues, and factors that can affect development and implementation of interventions.
  • Promote highly specialized positive Behavior Interventions in which "at risk" students thrive: behavior instruction that is explicit, intensive, accelerated and provides ample practice.
  • Model good assessment processes that assist students in assessing their own work and behavior.
  • Provide recognition of a variety of student accomplishments and positive behaviors.
  • Work cooperatively with building administrators to promote positive student behavior by providing professional development that targets research, strategies and modeling of instructional practices to support teachers in their implementation of positive behavior support in their classrooms.
  • Continually supervise students to ensure a safe, non-threatening, nurturing environment where students can thrive.
  • Engage parents in the "student Behavior Intervention plan" process and empower parents by providing them with skills and techniques to support the positive behavior development of their child.
  • Conduct conflict resolution and peer mediation sessions Review behavior referrals and Student Information Systems data reports.
  • Participate in building level MTSS team and/or grade level meetings, as appropriate
  • Consult with school social worker, SEL's, counselor, and teachers
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures; report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources. Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve District, building, departmental and/or grade level goals Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill
