The Company: Physician Specialists in Anesthesia (“PSA”) provides dedicated and comprehensive anesthesia services at Emory Saint Joseph's Hospital (“ESJH”). PSA has outstanding culture and delivers the majority of its care under the anesthesia care team model with an experienced and highly-engaged team of anesthesiologists, anesthesiologist assistants, certified registered nurse anesthetists, and allied health professionals.
The Position: Due to continued growth, we have immediate opportunities for one (1) full-time BC/BE intensivist (board certified/eligible in critical care, any ABMS specialty) to help staff our cardiovascular surgical ICU. Must be experienced and comfortable in managing post-cardiac surgery, post-thoracic surgery, and post-vascular surgery patients. We utilize a multidisciplinary team approach, including APP support, critical care pharmacist, and cardiac surgical residents/fellows.
You would be joining our team of cardiac/critical care board certified anesthesiologists in staffing the unit.
Work schedule is flexible; 7 days on, and then opportunity for 1-4 weeks off to fit your desired work/life balance.

The Hospital: Founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1880, Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital is Atlanta's longest-serving hospital. Today, the 410-bed, acute-care facility is recognized as one of the top specialty-referral hospitals in the Southeast. Emory Saint Joseph’s is a leader among Georgia hospitals and is part of the Emory Healthcare system.
Case Mix: ESJH sees a variety of surgical volume, which includes cardiac, thoracic, major vascular, orthopedics, spine, neuro, general surgery, gynecology, ENT, urology, and endoscopy. No obstetrics, pediatrics, or trauma. Of these, cardiac, thoracic, and vascular are the primary admissions to the CVICU. There may be MICU overflow, as well as other surgical admissions. Heart Cases: 1200 cardiac procedures per year includes: Complex and routine cardiac. Robotic mitral valve surgery (the world’s busiest and most experienced center). Complex aortic reconstruction. Complex valves, CABG (on and off pump), Valve-CABG, Valve repair, LVAD's. Structural heart procedures (MitraClip, TAVR, Watchman, etc.) and full range of electrophysiology procedures (not included in above cardiac case total; 3 rooms daily). ICU Care: PSA provides physician intensivist coverage for the 24-bed ESJH cardiovascular surgery ICU. You are supported in the ICU by APP’s, as well as a multidisciplinary team approach including dedicated critical care pharmacists and cardiac surgical residents/fellows. Case mix includes routine postoperative cardiac surgical care, advanced heart failure support, LVAD, ECMO, as well as complex thoracic and vascular surgical patients.

The newly developed Atlanta Beltline is transforming the Atlanta downtown into a “live-work-play” community. The Beltline is a planned loop of 22 miles of modern streetcar, 33 miles of multi-use trail, and 2,000 acres of parks. It is well underway and will open in phases through the anticipated completion in 2030. Atlanta residents are avid sports fans.
