General Purpose
Burlington City Arts is seeking an energetic and dynamic Gallery Educator to provide gallery learning programs, including tours, art activities, camps, and workshops at the BCA Center for youth ages 4-18, adults, and families.
BCA Gallery educators are responsible for teaching dynamic, innovative, accessible learning experiences. We run inquiry-based tours as well as art activities that engage diverse audiences with BCA Center exhibitions. Gallery educators serve as lead educator for BCA Center school tours, camps, workshops, and intergenerational public programs such as Family Art Saturday, artist-led workshops, and select exhibit programs. For larger groups or tours, BCA Gallery Educators may exclusively lead art activities. As a team, Gallery Educators work in collaboration with the Coordinator of Gallery Learning and Public Programs with the development of exhibit-based lesson plans, art activities, and material lists.
We seek candidates who have experience working with youth and adults in a gallery, museum, or education settings; or have an arts or education background with equivalent experience; enjoy working with children, youth, and families, and are enthusiastic, friendly, creative, highly organized, and dependable.
BCA Gallery educator hours vary weekly and monthly according to season and program needs, and they average 15-20 hours/month. Most programming occurs on weekday mornings, and monthly on Saturdays, with occasional afternoons or evenings.

Essential Job Functions
  • Develop high-quality gallery learning activities for Pre-K-12 school groups and intergenerational groups.
  • As lead educator, give dialogue-based exhibition tours for youth, university students, and adults, including opening and closing of exhibitions as needed.
  • Create and plan exhibition-based activities inspired by themes, processes, and key ideas that are conveyed in lesson plans, hands-on learning art activities, and materials lists.
  • Facilitate art activities in the BCA Center studio for youth, adults, and families.
  • Assist with education studio classroom organization, inventory, set-up, clean-up.
  • Work closely with BCA Gallery Learning and Programs Coordinator and Curator, teaching assistants, interns, and volunteers to provide programs.
  • Administer program evaluations and surveys.
Non-Essential Job Functions

Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements
  • Ability to actively support City diversity, equity, and cultural competency efforts within stated job responsibilities and work effectively across diverse cultures and constituencies.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion as evidenced by ongoing trainings and professional development.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Bachelor's degree in Arts Education and/or Studio Arts required, experience in Arts Education and/or Studio Arts preferred.
  • Desire to work with youth, adults, families, and the general public.
  • Comfort and experience leading discussions that are both educational and conversational.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in a clear and helpful manner with BCA staff, teachers, and parents.
  • Previous experience working with youth required.
  • Must demonstrate a high level of enthusiasm, punctuality, and dependability.
  • Cooperative, team-player attitude.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including some weekends and evenings when necessary.
  • Communicate and coordinate availability for leading programs in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to a changing schedule.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
