Job Title: Batch Plant Operator

Department: Production

Reports to: Plant Manager               

Salary Grade/Level/Family/Range: $18-20 p/hour

FLSA Classification: Nonexempt 

Effective Date: 12/19/23

Job Summary:

The Batch Plant Operator is responsible for concrete batching operations and the leadership and direction of Batch Plant equipment maintenance and upkeep. This position must ensure all concrete produced meets the NPCA specified quality requirements with delivery to the production area - on time and at the correct volume. To perform this job successfully each essential duty must be conducted satisfactorily.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

· None.

Duties/Responsibilities:

· Determines work assignments and material or equipment needs based on written work orders or oral instructions.

· Determine batching schedules and correct batch quantities based on precast panel shop drawings and pour schedules.

· Actively manage inventory and ordering of raw materials (rock/stone, sand, cement, and admixtures) in a manner that mitigates delays and schedule impacts.

· Consistently produce concrete that meet requirements NPCA as specified.

· Schedule and manage daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning and upkeep of the batch area and equipment to meet cleanliness standards "5S" to ensure safe operation and minimal downtime.

· Schedule and manage daily, weekly, and monthly preventative maintenance.

· Understand and adhere to all Federal, State, and Local regulations as they apply to the Batch Plant Operation (OSHA, Right to Know, Lock Out /Tag Out, etc.).

· Ability to efficiently communicate to all levels of employees at the company as well as vendors and auditors.

· Ability to use computers, and applicable software.

· Ability to troubleshoot problems with concrete condition and make the required adjustments to solve issues quickly and completely.

· Ability to troubleshoot batching equipment issues and resolve issues in a quick and timely manner. Services equipment as needed, reporting mechanical or electrical difficulties to truck mechanic.

· Operates equipment to transport liquid materials from Batch Plant to forms.

· Uses daily production sheets or work tickets to record the number of units moved or managed (batch counts and material tickets).

· Performs other related duties as assigned.

· Obtains production schedule and/or shipping orders and then identifies, verifies, and transports requested raw materials, equipment, or processing materials accordingly.

· Reports any problems with materials or pouring truck to plant manager.

Required Skills/Abilities:

· Ability to follow directions.

· Ability to handle materials and equipment in a responsible manner.

· Basic (9th grade) math, language, and reading skills.

· Ability to handle equipment and vehicles safely and sensibly.

Education and Experience:

· Experience safely using forklifts, lift trucks, and hand trucks highly preferred.

· Satisfactorily pass forklift driving training program or demonstrate safe handling of forklift in an on-site test.

· High school diploma or general education degree (GED), preferred.

Physical Requirements:

· Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the entire body. This will include climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, carrying, and stooping.

· Must be able to lift and move up to 60 pounds.

· Ability to maintain single-task focus and situational awareness.

· Must be able to walk up and down steps many times per day.

· Must be able to squat, crawl and operate various hand tools.

Work Environment

· Work areas are not climate controlled.

· Ambient temperatures and humidity will generally be the same as outdoor temperatures.

· Some work may require exposure to direct sunlight outdoors.

· Due to the nature of the batching process, the levels of dust and dirt can be very high.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
