The New Orleans JCC is a state-of-the-art fitness center and pool, a leader in New Orleans early childhood education, a fun-filled summer day camp and so much more. It is a place for adults to take an exercise class, an art class or dance class. A place for children and teens to experience learning through enrichment classes, sports leagues, family activities, and summer camps. The JCC is built on Jewish values but is welcome to everyone.
The mission of the New Orleans Jewish Community Center is to promote and ensure the well-being of our Jewish community and to instill an understanding of Judaism and its heritage by providing a Center where all can enjoy, learn, experience and share in quality activities in a Jewish environment.
The New Orleans JCC is seeking a friendly and knowledgeable Basketball Referee. The primary responsibility of a Basketball Referee is to enforce the rules of the game. Under the supervision and guidance of the Director of Sports and Wellness the Basketball Referee is responsible for officiating basketball games for the New Orleans Jewish Community Basketball Program.
What You'll Do:
- Keep everyone safe and the games controlled.
- Maintain professionalism and serve as a role model.
- Have open communication with the participants to ensure games start in a timely manner.
- Must have neutral opinion when officiating games.
- Be responsible for granting timeouts and allowing substitutions.
- Be responsible for calling violations if players travel, double dribble, commit a foul or any other violation of the rules.
- Be attentive to the game to be able to call any and all unsportsmanlike conduct penalties, player, or coach ejections, or even calling a forfeit of the game in certain circumstances.
- Maintain orders during stoppages in play and can assess technical fouls or eject players for rules infractions during stoppages.
- Responsible for calling fouls and administering and enforcing changes of possessions or free throws.

What You'll Bring:
- High School diploma required.
- Licensed by an official organization and experience refereeing is strongly preferred.
- Current CPR certification and basic first aid training is required.
- Must have knowledge of the basketball program, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Youth programming experience a plus; OR any equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Must have familiarity with the basketball rules and the modified rules used by the JCC.
- Must be able to communicate with players/statistician to get games started promptly.
- Must be able to run for extended amounts of time.
- Must be able to communicate schedule conflicts with supervisor.
- Must be able to remain calm in a stressful competitive atmosphere.
Work Schedule:
Monday & Wednesday Evenings
6 pm - 9 pm
YABL – 5 on 5 full Court (Monday)
Mellow ball – 3 on 3 or 4 on 4 half court (Wednesday)

$18.80-$28.00 per game depending on experience.
