Job Title: Student Research Assistant

Length of Time: Academic Year (Fall & Spring): 2023 - 2024
Department Description: The basic science department of the Fred Wilson School of Pharmacy is led by Interim Chair Kent Stewart and Interim Vice Chair Sally McMillin. Faculty in this department contribute to both the didactic and experiential components of the pharmacy curriculum. Most faculty in the department run research labs that expose both undergrads and pharmacy students to "wet lab" scientific and medical research.
Job Description: This position will primarily consist of hands-on research duties in the laboratory of Dr. McMillin. The student should expect to complete safety training as well as job duty training before taking over a sub-section of the laboratory project. Techniques to be utilized include basic molecular biology techniques such as cell culture, PCR, and western blots. Student will also be expected to maintain a detailed lab notebook and to meet with Dr. McMillin on a weekly basis.
Job Location/ Hours Required:
The candidate will perform most/all job duties in Condgon Health Sciences 4062 and 3031. Hours may vary depending on the job requirements; however, the total number of hours a student employee may work per week is 20 hours. This position requires up to 15 hours per week.

- Maintaining cells in culture
- Performing molecular biology experiments
- Keeping a detailed lab notebook
- Meeting with PI once per week
- Notifying PI when items in the lab need to be purchased
