Lighthouse Mission Ministries seeks a part-time intern for their Base Camp homeless services center and low-barrier emergency shelter. The primary purpose of this internship is direct relational service with guests at Base Camp.


Time Commitment: 10-20 hours per week (or variable for credit) during Winter Quarter 2024 (1/9/2024 - 3/22/2024). Internship is set to begin the first week starting of the Winter Quarter, ending March 22, 2024. 

 

Internship Shadowing and Tasks Description: 

  • Help complete administrative tasks including: answering phones, sorting mail,  assisting clients at the front desk, organizing supplies, and other duties as assigned.
  • Build healthy relationships with guests while encouraging them to pursue new goals.
  • Make referrals to community resources, Lighthouse Mission Services, and more learn about those resources.
  • Help manage/update the employment board.
  • Help maintain safety, hospitality and cleanliness of the daytime shelter.
  • Help assist with engaging tasks for the guests including but not limited to: assisting with check-ins, playing games with guests, serving meals, day room and outside visitation with clients, maintaining guests, and coordinating shower and laundry services.
  • Help assist with donation organization.
  • Opportunity for additional projects/concentrations: Managing the donation-based coffee shop, Café Renovaré, coordinating a collaborative group art project, or leading a Bible study or class.
  • Specific tasks of the internship can be adapted to meet student needs and areas of interest.

  • Willingness to develop professional boundaries and ethics


Organizational Relationships: Intern will be supervised by the Director of Crisis and Outreach Services and the Crisis Services Manager. Intern will work in-office alongside staff and volunteers in Crisis and Outreach Services.


Qualifications: This internship is open to any college or university students seeking work experience for academic credit. Preference for candidates with an area of study of personal passion for social services. The internship is not an offer of employment- either during the course of the internship or a promise of employment afterwards. In recognition of the intern’s efforts and costs, LMM is pleased to offer a $1,000 stipend payment paid in a lump sum following the successful completion of the internship. Interns, in accordance with LMM policies, may be subject to a pre-volunteer background check.
