If you love loud, fast paced, action packed days, with lots and lots of customer interaction and have an aptitude for precise, detailed work performed under pressure, this may be the best job you've ever had. How, What, Where and Why: Octopus Coffee is currently open five days a week: Wednesday through Sunday in winter season, Thursday - Monday in summer season (we're in summer season March til October).
We are looking for a lively, social, extrovert who is available at least four days a week, from 5 am – 3 pm. Thursday, Friday and Monday afternoons must be available until 3 pm. We do get catering work that sometimes requires a 3:30 am start time - please let us know if you are interested in these shifts.

Sample shifts are shown below. Start times and end times fluctuate according to sales (but this will give you an idea as to when you can expect to work) (we all work all of the shifts).

Opener: 5 am - 12:30 pm

2nd Shift: 5:45 am - 12:30 pm

3rd Shift: 6:00 am - 1 pm

4th Shift: 7:30 am - 3:00 pm

5th Shift: 8:15 am - 3:00 pm

(we close at 1:30 pm, takes about 70 minutes to clean up and close).

What is the Octopus? We are fun, interactive, fast paced, action packed breakfast party located at 759 Horizon Drive, 81506. We are not just an espresso bar - we have a lot of food. Breakfast burritos, breakfast wraps and egg sandwiches as well. We are a small team, and cross trained on all the stations. We all do dishes, we all mop floors, we all open, we all close. We are a great little team.

Extroverts love this job. We are a lively, busy shop and it is not uncommon to sing along with the guests or make up fun rhymes. We really make use of our open floor plan, and provide a warm, inclusive, chatty, raucous atmosphere.

We have long lines. Because we're awesome (obvs), but long lines mean pressure. Some folks who struggle with anxiety will find that pressure really tough. Not that we haven't had success with all kinds of folks, but we do best with those who are looking for a fast paced, interactive environment - think of this job as playing a part on the great stage of breakfast theater! Job Description:

• Baking off scones, breads, Danish, and sweet rolls (baking experience a plus, but not required). Plan on at least one opening shift per week.
• Setting up the shop and taking care of early morning guests with speed and warmth.
• Closing the shop and restocking for the morning.
• Drinking mad amounts of beverages (free drinks all the time - even days off!).
• Sales: making correct change, counting change back, and helping sleepy people make the most of their days.
• Charming fellow humans, upselling to delight our guests with a complete experience.
• Grill Cooking: breakfast burritos, tasty egg sandwiches.
• Prep work: cracking eggs, dicing and roasting potatoes from scratch, restocking food as needed. We are proudly food safety compliant and enjoy an excellent relationship with the health department.
• Practicing ergonomics in the workplace for a life of freedom from repetitive work injury.
• Learning and executing many different, technical coffee and tea-based beverages. Milk work and latte art training (to see our menu https://octopuscoffeegj.square.site/drinks) . We have no robots at the Octopus, you'll be learning hand tamping, hand steaming, and many craft beverage techniques.
• Washing dishes. Mopping floors. Washing more dishes.
• Room to rise: we have multiple interior positions for career track individuals.
• Fashion forward workplace: wear no uniform except a purple apron! Your crazy hair color is just fine and we think it's pretty likely our manager has more tattoos than you do. We are spiffy though! Nothing says “please don't bother tipping me” like bedhead and gym clothes. Fashion is a part of our higher wages.
• Our customer base is wonderfully primed so our workdays are pleasant and sweet. Yes, there are techniques for this and we teach and practice them.

Compensation: This is a tipped position. Most of our crew averages $17-24/hour, tips included. But we've found hourly wage isn't really great at communicating what take home pay is going to be, our crew averages about $475 - $650 a week (as in, what they take home after taxes). We understand that a lot of folks are new to tipped wages and want to know what the base wage is, it's $12.50 - $14/hr for trained crew. Trainees start at $11/hr plus tips... no one earns less than $16/hr even during training. We work hard to keep everyone at least at $21/hour at all times.

Full Time Benefits (we are all full time):

• Any bag of coffee beans for $5, per week (up to two)
• Legal sick and quarantine pay, as required by state legislation, up to three weeks
• Vacation Pay:
• 12 months: one week vacation, 25% pay (calculated on the average of the last three pay periods)
• 24 months, one week vacation, 50% pay (calculated on the average of the last three pay periods)
• 36 months, one week vacation, 75% pay (calculated on the average of the last three pay periods)
• 48 months, one week vacation, 100% pay (calculated on the average of the last three pay periods)
• For every 12 months after, 2 days of 100% paid vacation will add on to the week of paid vacation
• Snooze and Lose Policy: As actually taking the vacation is the essential piece of why we have vacation pay at the Octopus, if you do not take your paid vacation, all benefits will be lost. Taking time off prevents burnout and thus keeps turnover expenses low as well as making life worth living.
