Barback (Barista Assistant) - Coffee Shop

Job Description: We are seeking an efficient and detail-oriented Barback to join our coffee shop team. As a barback, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring smooth operations behind the scenes. Your primary responsibility will be to support our baristas and maintain a clean and well-stocked espresso bar area. If you’re passionate about coffee and want to pursue a career in the coffee industry and if you are into delivering excellent service and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, we’d love to hear from you!

Responsibilities:

• Assist with Opening and Closing Duties:
• Restock the bar with coffee, straws, napkins, and other essentials.
• Ensure baristas have everything to serve the best coffee and supply them with necessary items.
• Stock Management:
• Keep the bar well-stocked with coffee, tea and other beverages.
• Regularly check stations and appliances to confirm proper functioning. Make minor repairs or change kegs if needed.
• Maintain Cleanliness:
• Wipe down surfaces, sweep, mop, and wash dishes throughout the day.
• Scrub coolers and storage areas.
• Empty trash receptacles.
• Learn About Menu Items:
• Familiarize yourself with our coffee and beverage menu.
• Memorize and note drink recipes recipes (you should have a good memory or listen very good).

• Customer Service:
• Take orders, prepare drinks, and assist during peak hours.
• Take order and process payments.
• Engage with customers, answer questions, and handle any complaints.
• Inventory Management:
• Maintain records and report usage levels to assist in the reordering process.
• Ensure delivered items are stored properly.

Requirements:

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Age Requirement: Must meet the minimum age to work in NJ.
• Personality Traits:
• Courteous, friendly, and professional. Willing to learn how to prepare the best cup of coffee.
• Attentive and focused on providing excellent service.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Observant and thorough.
• Responsible and punctual.
• Knowledge and Skills:
• Familiarity with menu items, including coffee, teas, and other beverages.
• Basic math and computer skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Physical Demands:
• Ability to walk, stand, and lift somewhat heavy items for short periods.
• Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
