Job Description
Maintain current knowledge of instructional methods and new technologies pertinent to areas of assignments; learn and apply emerging technologies and advances as necessary to perform duties in an efficient, organized and timely manner.
Teach scheduled classes and perform related duties as assigned, including timely compliance with clerical and administration responsibilities; comply with district, college and division policies in the performance of duties.
Develop culturally relevant course content, culturally responsive pedagogical techniques, and effective practices for engaging students who are diverse and/or are students who are historically undeserved.
Maintain professional and ethical academic standards associated with the history and culture of the Hotel, Restaurant and Culinary Arts department.
Must be prepared to teach classes in face-to-face, online and hybrid modalities as needed.

Special Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
Any Bachelor's degree or higher AND two years of professional experience directly related to the faculty member's teaching assignment
OR
Any Associate degree AND six years of professional experience directly related to the faculty member's teaching assignment
OR
Possess a valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject matter area;
OR
The equivalent. Equivalent qualifications may include related education, training, employment and professional experience that would be equal to the required degree(s) and experience in this field as determined by the District Equivalency Committee.
Commitment to diversity. All applicants must have demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff. The applicant must be able to demonstrate how these factors relate to the need for equity minded practices within the classroom.
Desirable Qualifications
Teaching experience at high school or higher education levels in-person and online.
Community college teaching credential or certificate.
Experience in training or formal teaching in industry.
Membership and active participation in relevant professional organizations which may include: American Hotel and Lodging Association, California Hotel and Lodging Association, National Restaurant Association, California Restaurant Association, American Culinary Federation, and Council of Hotel and Restaurant Trainers.
ServeSafe Manager's Certification or equivalent.
ServeSafe certified instructor and proctor of examination.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to create a dynamic learning environment that values instructor/student interaction.
Ability to adapt teaching pedagogy to the knowledge of each individual and course.
Demonstrated experience and commitment to integrating new technologies into the learning process, such as interactive technologies for on campus, hybrid, and online courses.
Knowledge of software and applications such as Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Zoom, Learning Management System such as Canvas.
Culturally responsive in interactions with students, faculty, staff, and community members who span a diverse range of languages, nationalities and ethnicities, socio-economic levels, ages, identities, abilities, and educational experiences.
Driven to help students from historically underrepresented and/or marginalized groups, nontraditional students, speakers of other languages, and students with learning disabilities.
Baking and Pastry Arts:
Baking and Pastry Arts diploma or formal Baking and Pastry Arts educational training.
Possess a foundation of Baking and pastry knowledge, with a desire for continued learning.

Culinary Arts:
Culinary Arts Management diploma or formal Culinary Arts educational training.
Possess a foundation of Culinary Arts knowledge, with a desire for continued learning.
Working Conditions Salary Range Salary Range: $1286.03 - $1411.29 per lecture unit rate, $1028.85 - $1128.97 per lab unit rate Salary Schedule Information
