Our Story
Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii was born on the Big Island of Hawaii in 1989 with the dream of sharing American-grown, premium Hawaiian coffee from Kauai, Oahu, Maui, Moloka’i and Ka’u with coffee lovers everywhere.
It didn’t take long for the legend of Bad Ass to reach the mainland as tourists began to bring their new favorite coffee, hats and t-shirts home while spreading the word about their awesome Hawaiian Bad Ass experience.
The first mainland store was opened in 1995, in Salt Lake City and our ‘ohana started growing from there. Today, Bad Ass continues to serve premium Hawaiian and other top international coffees in stores in the U.S., U.S. Virgin Islands and Japan.
In addition to coffee with a kick, we serve popular blended drinks, teas, food, and branded merchandise. We’re committed to sharing the warm hospitality of the Aloha Spirit by creating a space where every customer can relax, enjoy themselves and fuel their inner badass.
The Bad Ass Legend
For generations, the donkeys of Kona, Hawaii could be heard bellowing as they carried precious loads of coffee beans down the steep mountains of the Big Island. The native people of Kona named these hard-working donkeys the “Bad Ass Ones” because of their reliably strong, but stubborn nature in carrying their precious cargo.
The Legend of those hard-working donkeys lives on today as Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii where we’re stubborn about our sourcing, roasting and serving quality Hawaiian coffee and doing so with the Aloha Spirit.
