JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Smeal College of Business Department of Management and Organization is seeking a Part-Time Teaching Assistant (TA) to join the BA 342 and MGMT 301 Teaching Team. Teaching Assistants perform duties that are instructional in nature and deliver direct services to students.
Responsibilities (10 hours per week) will be assigned by the course instructors and the course manager to include continuing enforcement of and adherence to administrative policies and rules governing students, 3 hours attending class, 3 hours holding in-person/virtual office hours, 3 hours responding to email and reviewing assignment submissions (prompt, thorough, and accurate review of student submissions, providing appropriate constructive feedback), and 1 hour of Teaching Team meetings and exam proctoring.
Teaching Assistants are expected to demonstrate excellent academic performance, a high level of integrity, and professional behavior; in particular, TAs must uphold both the Smeal Honor Code and the Class Codes of Conduct and maintain strict confidentiality with respect to student information and course materials. Commitment and sensitivity to the individual student are required, including awareness of diversity of students' cultural, racial, gender, and ethnic backgrounds; perception of differing learning styles; and attention to special needs of students with declared or apparent learning difficulties. Applicants must be Smeal undergraduate students with a 3.5 or higher GPA, strong knowledge of the material from having performed well academically in both MGMT 301 and BA 342, and the ability to work effectively one-on-one with students who are seeking help. Successful candidates will be confident in front of hundreds of students in these large-enrollment classes.
Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies.
