Job/Department Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Lead Automotive/Equipment Mechanic, incumbent independently performs minor-to-major repairs on University vehicles and equipment, including mechanical and electrical repairs and preventive maintenance. Incumbent will perform inspections and diagnostic tests, complete preventive and non-preventive repair work, operate and maintain hand, power tools, and garage/shop equipment, clean and safely maintain work area(s), perform job related record-keeping using computers, prepare parts and labor estimates, order parts and materials, and oversee and coordinate work of semi-skilled and unskilled student workers and staff.

Required Education and Experience:

These abilities normally would be acquired through any combination of progressively responsible training and experience as an automotive and/or equipment mechanic which demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a standard apprenticeship program.

Preferences:

Preference may be given to applicants with the following as they may be considered specialized skills: 

  • Bilingual
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Experience in higher education, particularly experience with CSU system documentation, policies and methodology.
  • Knowledge of the University, State, and Federal OSHA rules and regulations related to automotive and equipment repair services.
  • Demonstrated customer service experience in a diverse environment.

Time Base: Full-time- 1.0

Pay Plan: 12/12

Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 7:00am-3:30pm, Summer - Mon-Thurs 6:00am-4:30pm. 

CSU Classification Salary Range:  $69,444 - $88,752 per year.

Additional Information:

The person holding this position is considered a "Limited Mandated Reporter" under the California ChildAbuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU ExecutiveOrder 1083 (revised July 21, 2017) as a condition of employment.

Throughout employment in this position incumbent must maintain a valid California Driver's License, as well as successful completion and continued compliance with the CSU Defensive Driving Course.

The selected candidate must pass a post-offer pre-employment physical examination and vision tests including close vision, color blindness, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
