Job Title:
Automotive Technical Trainer

Job Location: 17725 Katy Fwy #200, Houston, TX 77094

Job Overview:

The start date for this role will be in April, 2024.

The Automotive Technical Trainer will serve in our Automotive Technology department and report to the Technical Training Lead. They will contribute to our culture of continuous learning for our technicians. This will include developing and improving training programs and curriculum, teaching classes and providing training leadership to franchises.

Responsibilities:

  • Learning the Christian Brothers Automotive retail system.
  • Developing prerequisite and follow-up curriculum and materials to enhance training
  • Providing input on new or revised procedures.
  • Teaching Technicians in various settings, including: classroom and hands-on training (both on-site and off-site), store visits, and remotely–using software and phone.
  • Attending (and successfully completing) major training conferences and Technician training courses annually–in order to keep up with current standards and be able to certify which courses can be recommended by CBA.
  • Contributing to an annual workshop for CBA Technicians.
  • Providing leadership to our franchises on establishing and revising best practices for training technicians and servicing vehicles.
  • Maintain relationships with partner vendors and regional training organizations in order to bolster CBA training and facilitate regional training offerings.
  • Design & develop prescribed online & in-person technical training curriculum within provided deadlines and up to CBA standards.
  • Facilitate delivery of technical training courses up to CBA standards & implementing Technical Training Dept. best practices.
  • Create presentation materials, including PowerPoints, workbooks, training aids, and other relevant materials for in-person and online content, using Technical Training Dept. best practices.
  • Design and build relevant hands-on workstations for courses.
  • Promote and contribute blended learning aspects into coursework for the online LMS.
  • Collaborate and contribute to course development for all technical training both outside and within the department.
  • Maintain cleanliness & top condition of training spaces, and all equipment/vehicles.
  • Uphold and follow all safety procedures & precautions during hands-on portions of classes for all students.
  • Assist other instructors during various portions of their classes.
  • Scheduling students for monthly training classes
  • Preparing students for training by assigning and following up on assigned online courses
  • Filling and maintaining student rosters
  • Scheduling personal travel and submitting expense reports
  • Participation in industry standards boards. (NASTF) for example

Qualifications


Qualifications:

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability and willingness to learn new tools and systems
  • Articulate and professional public speaking skills
  • Strong analysis, problem solving, and troubleshooting capabilities
  • Organized, efficient and agile in tasks and environment
  • Strong technical writing and data presentation abilities

Computer Skills

  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Outlook, Google tools (Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc) and Slack

Education & Experience

  • Customer service or retail industry experience
  • At least 10 years of experience in the automotive service or aftermarket industry
  • BS or AA degree in Automotive, or graduate of an automotive vocational program
  • ASE Certification(s)
  • Proficient or willing to learn the diagnostic applications for the following OEM’s: GM, Ford, Stellantis, Honda, Toyota, and Nissan
  • Experience developing training curriculum and providing instruction in both classroom and service bay environments
  • Experience with automotive electronics, including circuits/meters, FLASH programming, troubleshooting, schematic interpretation
  • Familiarity with J2534 standards and SAE resources

  • This role will be located at the Home Office headquarters in Houston, TX.

Travel will be required and will consist of:

  • Site visits to store locations for training and consulting
  • Conducting training in existing CBA markets for CBA staff
  • Continuing Education time in store locations and at various training seminars
  • Occasional scheduled off-site meetings
