- Inspects and tests vehicles, automotive systems and related equipment and diagnoses complex malfunctions using computerized diagnostic equipment.Conducts electronic engine analyses and various specialized tests, such as exhaust gas analysis, emission system analysis, electrical system analysis, electronic laboratory oscilloscope analysis and scan tool analysis.Repairs engine drivability, emissions and other computer controlled mechanical and electrical systems using various electronic and computerized devices.Performs complex mechanical repairs and extensive overhauls of all types of major automotive components, assemblies, and sub-assemblies.Operates and maintains tools and equipment of the automotive trade; cleans work area upon completion of project.Prepares reports and inspection forms.May provide guidance and instruction to lower-level Automotive Mechanics.
Qualifications and Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.Five years progressively responsible experience in servicing, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles or motor equipment.Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
