What are we looking for in an Authorization & Referral Specialist?
The Authorization & Referrals Specialist works within our Support Services team to manage referrals and insurance authorizations across the organization. This position is responsible for coordinating internal and external referrals, and for obtaining, entering, and tracking authorizations within our electronic health records. The Authorization & Referrals Specialist works directly with clients to coordinate for incoming client referrals and providing referrals to clients to receive treatment with other care providers. This position requires exceptional customer service skills and the ability to effectively communicate insurance requirements, billing procedures, and Referral processes in a supportive and helpful manner. The ability to speak, read, and write both English and Spanish is helpful for this role, but is not required. The Authorization & Referral Specialist is a full-time position working on-site in our Yakima outpatient office and has a schedule of Monday-Friday 8am-5pm.
Authorization & Referral Specialist duties may include:

  • managing internal & external referrals for the organization
  • scheduling referral appointments, sending reminders, and providing information to both clients and referring providers
  • processing authorizations and submitting supporting clinical documentation to insurance carriers in a timely manner
  • monitoring for issues with authorizations & referrals and taking necessary actions to report and address problems
  • collaborating with other departments to obtain authorizations & referrals
  • maintaining current knowledge of funding source requirements including Medicaid, Medicare, and private insurances 
  • completing special projects as assigned

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • One year of general office experience, preferably in the healthcare field
  • Bilingual English & Spanish preferred but not required
