Job description

Primary Responsibilities: An Audit Manager is an experienced professional who leads and manages a team of staff members to conduct and execute various audit and assurance services to clients.


Essential Duties:

  • Lead the engagement planning process and execute audit, review, and compilation engagements, including assessing the risks associated with the client’s business and designing audit procedures to test the effectiveness of internal controls.
  • Supervise and provide ongoing training for department staff, ensuring that they perform their work in accordance with professional standards and guidelines.
  • Review the work performed by staff members, providing feedback on their work and ensuring that the work is accurate and complete.
  • Communicate directly with the client regarding the status of the engagement and provide guidance and recommendations on how to improve their financial reporting processes.
  • Demonstrate thorough know knowledge of generally accepted accounting and audit principles.
  • Conducts research of technical accounting and audit principles and communication of the results of research to engagement teams and clients.
  • Draft the audit, review, or compilation financial statement reports, including any management and board of directors reports.
  • Monitors and addresses employee performance and behaviors. Review and submit high-quality audit, review, or compilation financial statement reports, including any management and board of directors reports to the engagement partner for their review.
  • Clear the engagement partner’s and the concurring review partner’s comments on the draft reporting package.
  • Send the client the draft reporting package after approval by the engagement partner.
  • Respond to client comments and edits on the draft reporting package.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with clients and timely report issues to Engagement Partner when necessary.
  • Manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Meet client and reporting deadlines.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of current and upcoming accounting and auditing standards and regulations.
  • Apply new accounting and auditing standards to engagements.
  • Mentor staff members through the firm’s mentoring program.
  • Participate in manager and management meetings.
  • Participate in special projects as assigned by partners.
  • Identify and participate in key initiatives and action plans necessary to achieve the goals and objectives of the firm.
  • Accomplishes department objectives by managing staff; planning and evaluating department activities.
  • Maintains staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees.
  • Ensures a safe, secure, and legal work environment.
  • Develops personal growth opportunities.

  • Accomplishes staff results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
  • Provides coaching, counseling, and corrective action to employees when appropriate.
  • Develops, coordinates, and enforces systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards.
  • Establishes strategic goals by gathering pertinent business, financial, service, and operations information.
  • Defines objectives, identifies and evaluates trends and options, chooses a course of action, and evaluates outcomes.
  • Maintains quality service by enforcing quality and client service standards, analyzing and resolving quality and client service problems, and recommending system improvements.
  • Actively participate in and attend firm/industry events.
  • Participates in community engagement activities.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Manage schedules and calendars of teams to meet engagement deadlines.

Working Conditions: Indoors. Air-conditioned office. Remote work available. Duties require

visiting other sites under a variety of indoor and outdoor conditions, including travel off-island .


Work Hours:

  • Generally, Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
  • Duties may require overtime. Weekends or additional hours as necessary to meet business needs.

Mental, Physical and Communication Demands:

  • Requires holding all confidential information in trust and confidence. Associate should only use, access, store, or disclose confidential information as appropriate in the performance of their duties for the company. An employee should comply with all applicable state and federal laws and company policies relating to access, use, and disclosure of confidential information.
  • Requires analytical ability, attention to detail, concentration, ability to multi-task and alertness. Requires dealing with situations involving changing priorities, complex issues and maintaining cooperative and productive work relationships.
  • Must be able to work under minimal supervision.
  • Requires working in a team setting with other individuals promoting an environment open for discussion and questions.
  • Requires being available for questions from clients or other team members during defined work hours.
  • Requires sitting for prolonged periods during meetings and at other times.
  • Requires working to established procedures, maintaining reliable work attendance.
  • Requires verbal communication skills and ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting; AND
  • At least 5 years of public accounting experience as an auditor, including at least 2 years supervising people and/or reviewing the work of others; OR
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Active Hawaii CPA license.

Preferred Qualification:

  • Master’s Degree in Accounting; and/or
  • Master’s in Business Administration.
