Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Audio/Visual Technician is responsible for the setup, operation, and maintenance of AV equipment and systems used for various events and functions. The primary responsibility is to ensure smooth operation of audio and video equipment during conferences, meetings, conventions, shows, presentations, and other entertainment events.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following and other duties may be assigned as necessary:

  • Install, set up, and operate audio and video equipment, including sound systems, microphones, speakers, projectors, screens, video walls, lighting systems, and other AV components
  • Configure and troubleshoot AV systems to meet the specific requirements of each event
  • Test and calibrate audio and video equipment to ensure optimal performance and quality
  • Assist event planners, organizers, and presenters in determining AV requirements for each event
  • Coordinate with event staff and clients to understand their audiovisual needs and ensure seamless execution
  • Provide technical support and guidance to presenters and performers during rehearsals and actual events
  • Monitor and adjust sound levels, lighting effects, and video displays during events to maintain high-quality standards
  • Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and cleaning of AV equipment to ensure proper functionality and longevity
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and malfunctions promptly to minimize downtime during events
  • Coordinate with external vendors and technicians for advanced repairs and equipment upgrades
  • Stay updated with the latest AV technologies and industry trends to suggest improvements and upgrades to the existing systems
  • Temporary or permanent duties and responsibilities may be added to or modified as deemed necessary

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Two (2) years of experience in AV operations, preferably in a hotel, casino, or entertainment venue
  • Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting a wide range of audio and video equipment
  • Knowledge of various AV systems, including sound reinforcement, lighting control, video switching, and projection
  • Familiarity with industry-standard software and applications used in AV production
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think quickly on your feet during live events
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills to interact with event organizers and presenters effectively
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Physical stamina to handle equipment setup and movement
  • Positive customer-service skills required
  • Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule to include holidays, nights, and weekends
  • Work in a fast-paced, busy, and somewhat stressful environment

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Member must be able to qualify for licenses and permits required by federal, state, and local regulations.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents in English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to read and communicate verbally in English. Written communication skills in English may also be required.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the Member is regularly required to stand and use hands and fingers to handle or utilize objects, tools, or controls. The Member frequently is required to reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and peripheral vision.

The Member must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, and must have the ability to push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop, stack, crouch, kneel and balance when performing job duties in varying work areas such as confined spaces.
